Goodyear Marathons. They wouldn't make "trailer" tires if regualr car tire were ok to use on a trailer.

Maxpower - The idea of changing the wheels is not to good - If you have a single axle Ramlin you are stuck with the steel it came with.

Fair enough. Trailer tires it is. Does anyone know a good size wheel I think the bolt pattern is 5 bolt by 4.5" but for backspacing? How wide can I go? I don't like the narrow ones it has now.

apex - you need to check with the tailer manufacturer - Like I said before, if you have a Ramlin you cannot put new wheels, other than stock, on it (I talked to Ramlin already).

why would you not be able to put new wheels on it? There should be plenty of options out there in a different design than what he has that are the same bolt pattern, offset, width, backspacing. etc as the stockers. I dont see how this could be a problem

According to Ramlin - Strength of wheel - I'm just saying check with the manufacturer rather than those who do not know and are just speculating. If you change the Ramlins you have no warranty or recourse in case of accident.

BS. Ramlin uses generic wheels themselves- theyre just trying to get you to purchase something through them at higher prices. Check the load rating of the wheel AND tire youre considering and make sure they are sufficient. Other than that, dont give it a second thought.

how much stronger can you get than a steel rim?

There is no option for the single axle I have - Do what you want - just do not inform the insurance company (if you have it).

I run some heavy trailers that have LT (light truck) tires installed since new from manufacturer.

My tandum axle Ramlin trailer came with 14" alloy wheels and 215 75 14 Goodyear tires. These tires are getting hard to find and are thus getting expensive. My local Goodyear dealer tells me that these 14" tires are not very popular these days. There are 15" wheel options with appropriate load ratings that will work.

Anyone know what size tire and wheel are on new trailers with the larger wheels?

Okay, My boat came with an ezloader trailer. It has 14 inch aluminum rims with 205 75 tires. I wanna get a wider tire on there. But in trailer tires it doesnt seem to be any bigger that 215 in a 14 inch rim. SO does anyone have this trailer and have changed wheels.

I have a 2000 Eagle with the original "chromed" generic steel wheels that it seems Ramlin uses as well. I call bs on these being Ramlin special. You can find them at Overton's, Gander Mountain, Northern Tool, and about 50 other web stores if not more. Since the previous owner blew one of the tires and decided to mismatch one original carlisle and 1 chinese "who knows what brand it is", I am more than likely going to replace with the Marathons, and new aluminum rims. Found some nice rims out at http://www.trailerandtruckparts.com/...eels_c_41.html Particularly the "Transformer" models. Maybe they are a little pimp, but they caught my eye. Anyone know the standard bolt pattern on our trailers? I think they are 4.5", which seem standard but need to due more research if the offset is different on these Aluminum rims. I'm with the others saying stick with trailer tires, radial in particular. I've had too many bias ply cheap Carlisle's blow on me and ruin my day on the water looking for a replacement on a Sunday afternoon. Plus it raises holy **** with the fenders.

As mentioned Ramlin does not manufacture the wheels nor are they custom designed for Ramlin. Ramlin is an assembler and a metal fab shop.
                              Couplers are from Titan.
                              Axles are from Quality.
                              Brakes and hubs are Kodiak.
Failures on any of those components will be addressed by the respective manufacturer.

Biggest issue with changing wheels is going to be the fact that they are going to carry a heavier load than a car wheel. Check with the wheel manufacturer.

For what its worth there are some very weak steel wheels out there and some very, very strong alloy ones.

Just looked at Boatmate's website and they use Nexen N3000's on their Malibu Bling Trailers. Looking at Nexen's website these 18" tires are Ultra Hi Performance car tires. What gives? Don't understand how or why boat trailer manufacturers would OEM these types of tires if there is a considerable difference between sports car tires and trailer tires. I was contemplating the Goodyear Marathons but the more reviews I read on them there have been all sorts of problems with them dating all the way back to 2005. Anyone know of a better choice?
