04 196, did you get a chance to get pics in the water? Lights look great! Did you mount the big one (center) to the drain plug? Or do 196's not have rear drain plugs?

I'm sitting and staring at my lights right now trying to figure out where to mount them. I did find the pockets you described, thanks, that will help a bunch if I decide to mount outside the platform brackets.

What type of lights are you guys using? This is exactly what I want to do with my '01-210, but I'm hesitant to drill holes in the hull, and not sure I'd get rid of my drain plug where you put the center one. I'm thinking of only using the two lights on the ends. Would be nice to see those night pics in the water!

196 does not have a drain plug in the transom.
How they look in the water depends on water clarity. The river we ski on has a fair amount of turbidity so I went with the Abyss L800's that are very bright but also pricey.

If you take your time and follow the instructions drilling through the hull is not that bad. Just make sure you have a plan for wiring and there are no obstructions on the inside of the hull.

            Underwater LED's on a 196

As j2nh said, there is no drain plug on the back. Since it is still pretty cold, the 5200 took several days to set up and completely cure so launching last weekend was not possible. I am going out of town for a week so decided to wait until I get back to relaunch boat which won't be until the weekend after next, 2/28, unless we get a nice day during week, then I will launch the 23rd or 24th. I will post pics as soon as it is back in. I've got a lot of friends here waiting to see these things in the water also.

Drilling through the hull is no problem, just drill slow and steady. I measured from the center swim platform bots on the inside of the boat to the floor and simply transfered that measurement down from the center of the same bolts on the outside. I drew a line and then knew the thickness of the floor and how far up from the bottom to place the lights and run wires where I would be sure to have access to them on the inside.

I may have said earlier but I located the wire harness for the keypad belly ballast tank switch back on the port side of the motor down where the exhaust goes under the rear floor before the gas tank. I just attached to that harness and operate them from the existing keypad switch. Same with the front docking lights, found that harness up under the dash so they operate with the starboard ballast switch.

OK, couldn't wait so launched boat, tired of skiing behind a MC anyway, time to "Nautique" it. Sorry, pics didn't turn out real well, may get some better ones later.

The A6 pull .5 amps and the A3s pull .35 amps each so I'm pulling 1.2 amps total for the three. Here's the web site with some info on the lights- http://www.oceanled.com/products/und...mphibians.html

Thanks....I had already been to the site....saw the website on the lens ...in your close up photo. I couldn't find the data though. The tech sheet was just a dimensional drawing.

                    Thanks again,

Hey cool install. Thank's for sharing with us. You don't see alot of guys with ski boat's doing this kind of install or mod. IMO most of the Ski guy's don't even want a back seat in their boat LOL.

MikeSki and I are planning on doing a TEST. We are rounding up a few diffrent brands of underwater LED lights to Test. We are planning on taking pictures of the light pattern and how bright and how far the light pattern go's back ect also power draw/amp's.

This is the first I have seen of the lights you installed.

                      How much are the Amphibians

I see there is a 3, a 6,and a 12 LED light how much are each of them?

                      Thanks Grant

                              Underwater LED's on a 196

I ordered the lights from Emerald City Marine out of Seattle, WA. I paid $165 ea. for the A3's and $365 for the A6. I didn't price the A12. I did find them for a little less on the net but wanted to get them local in case of any problems, even if I paid a little more.

And Grant_West - I do not have a back seat in my boat, has never been used.

WOW; $700 for transome light's. It's good to see some one spending some money on some bling! Let me just say your lights look great. The Abyss and the bullet lines lights are around the same price as the A3's. Bullet lines has a NEW $300 LED that would go up against the A6
