    Monterey California Wakeboarding Options

I've got a new job opportunity that I am considering in Monterey, California. Anyone have any comments on wakeboarding locations around there?

Long version... Currently living in Salt Lake City area and have 2007 Correct Craft 210 Limited set up like a team. 2 teenagers and a wife. I was laid off in December and have a good job offer in Monterey that I think that I will accept. I'm trying to understand if it makes sense to keep the boat and take it with us or to sell it and come up with a new way to spend my money...

Thanks in advance for any info!

Keep the boat! I live just up the coast from Monterey in Santa Cruz (about 30 minutes north). For day trips you have several options within 1-2 hours. My personal favorites are Lake Andersen, Lake Nacimiento, San Luis Reservoir, and the Delta. For overnights and vacations, there are a ton of world-class lakes and reservoirs in NorCal within 2-5 hours from Monterey (Shasta, Tahoe, Don Pedro, Orville, Bullards Bar, just to name a few).

Northern California is known for it's abundance of reservoirs that were built by the Army Corps of Engineers in the '60s as part of the water reclamation project. I've lived here all my life and we still discover new lakes every summer. For more info, I highly recommend this guide:

Hit me up if you take the job and we'll check out some lakes. Monterey is an awesome place, take the job and keep the boat. Good luck!

Tough, call. You are surrounded by water, but it' all ocean. As go big suggests,
Anderson Lake, and San Luis resevoir are the closest, about 55 miles from you for either. San Antonio and Nacimeinto are about 110 miles. The Delta is 130 miles.
McClure, Don Pedro, Tullock, New Hogan, Comanche and others are 150-200 miles.
Depending upon where you choose to live, could be 20-30 miles closer to the lakes.

        GoBig and bkhallpass,
Thanks for all the info, it is appreciated. Sounds like boating is still an option if I want to drive a bit. We'll see where we end up living etc. and make final decision on the boat this spring. My family will be in SLC until then. How much of a tow vehicle will I need? (Are there big mountains to go over?) Right now we have a newer V-6 Toyota Tacoma which is a little underpowered, but we keep our boat in dry storage at the lake (Jordonelle Reservoir) so we only have to drag it up over the Wasatch mountains a few times a year.

My other option that I am considering is to go back to my job before I came to SLC on the island of Maui. I'd definitely have to sell it then.

        Thanks,
        dmm

Most reservoirs are in the Sierra foothills so there can be some steep grades. For day trips, (lakes within ~100 miles) the terrain is relatively flat. I'm in between full size trucks right now and have been towing my 210 SANTE with my wife's 4.0L V6 4Runner (2005). I was actually surprised at how capable the 4Runner is. It is no F350 but it has been doing just fine for us. Although I miss having a truck, I'm not in a rush to buy right now since we have the 4Runner.

i am pretty sure there is a harbor on maui you can wakeboard, and you can do it year round. but i would step it up to a tundra, you can probably get one for the same price as you tacoma these days

Don't forget your season will be much longer. When you are shutting down in Utah things are still great here.
