I'm getting a 2007 196 LTD. How many skiers can I pull up using only the pylon, assuming there experienced skiers and on two skis?

RE: How many can I pull
depending on what motor you got in the boat i would say 10-12 skiers at one time..

I pulled 9 from a 1989 SKI Nautique, but it seems like I remember we put some ropes on the back of the boat since the Pylon was bending a lot.

Pulling a big load from the tower will hinder the boats ability to get on plane as quickly as it will pull the bow up. We were doing 4 man deep BF starts off the tower of our boat and we drowned, dropped the rope to the pylon and the pull was much better.

I once pulled a Malibu off the sand with my pylon in the old 1984... 3/4 throttle water bog with people lifting/pushing the Bu. We used a 100' 2" diameter houseboat tie up rope, it was scary, but those pylons are super strong. I would say they can handle all the power the boat is capable of delivering.

I have had 10 behind my '83 2001 in a pyramid . Hardock is correct with finding show boards and using them. I would also suggest pulling from the pylon and keep the rope as low on the plyon as possible and if possible take off from a sitting dock start with a strong idle 7-10 mph and then WOT with about 3 coils left.

Short answer, probably not. Our team is located in Portland, OR. and is small compared to some Midwest teams. A lot of our members have personal skis, and I do not think we could come up with 24 showboards that are owned by the team. There are also liability issues.
Most teams do a dock start, and not deep water starts. Do you have a dock wide enough to hold 12 skiers? It is also not easy pulling that many skiers, for the skier, or the boat and driver.
I regularly pull "more than the two adults recommended" off the pylon with my 1997 Ski Nautique. But when the number gets larger than eight or ten people, I try to defer the pulls to our teams twin rig Hydrodyne, it is a much easier pull for both the skiers, and the boat.
It sounds like you want to do some show ski stuff. Again, I suggest you contact a show ski team near you. You will meet some great people, and can learn many new skills. They will teach you how to pull large acts, build pyramids, how to barefoot, will probably have a jump, and people who can teach you to jump.
Having said that, If you are a member of a show ski team, they might just let you borrow the skis, to practice with outside of their normal practice times.
When our team traveled back to Wisconsin in 1997, other teams we competed against loaned us boats, skis, ropes, and access to their practice sites. When we would meet people from other teams, the first three things out of their mouths was "Welcome, we are so glad you are here!" " How can we help you?" "Do you need to borrow anything?"

Hijack alert...
I would love to pickup a pair of used/thrashed wood showboards to use for skiing around with the kids. The old 74" jump skis work but the big old flat show boards work better...
If anybody has access to some used showboards please let me know. I just can't justify the cost of new Lake Elmo boards.
