    Used PCM GT-40 5.8 L for Sale

I had a hard lesson learned this winter. I live in the Northwest and it rarely gets below freezing. Boat was covered in a barn and had a lightbulb in engine compartment. Left for Xmas vacation and we experienced an abnormal week of snow and 19 degree weather. Engine froze and cracked the engine block.

Engine was immaculate. Was well maintained with 525 hours on it. Absolutely clean with no grease/dirt or leaks on outside. Water was found in oil pan which implies engine block cracked somewhere. Is anyone interested in buying it for parts or with intent to rebuild? I will ship it anywhere in the US. New PCM sells for around $10,000. I am asking for $1,500 (which includes the cost for shipping). All electrical and fuel injection components work. Cylinder heads alone are worth $400 each (8 x $400 = $3,200!). Timing cover is worth $700. Oil pan alone is worth $300....

    Contact me if interested.

Prices I received were from a dealer in SC. Granted he mentioned used would be worth 1/2 of what was quoted.

            It's a V8, so I assume it has 8 cylinders.

I would be willing to bet that you probably only have two heads though. If not, I'd love to see some pictures of the engine!

I agree...and except for the Ford 300 "stump puller," two heads are always better than one.

$1,500 including shipping doesn't sound too bad.

Why are you selling the whole motor? Why not replace what's bad and put it back together? Replacing reverse rotation motors is sometimes more difficult than you think. The stuff that's broken will not be rotation specific, any good motor shop should be able to make the repairs for you for less than $2k.

There was a new GT40 on e-bay a few months ago, reverse rotation for a correct craft and all. It didn't sell in either listing I saw, maybe it did sell on a later listing. I vaguely recall the price was $4,500 plus shipping.

OK, so I am probably confusing cylinder heads with piston heads.... But it is a V8. I'll get some pics on here either today or tomorrow (my boat is in storage away from my home).

My insurance is paying me for the depreciated value of my engine, so I am just deciding to get a new engine rather than take chances with rebuilding it. I'm going with the PCM Excalibur 343.

I found an engine online at www.skidim.com for about $3500 less than the dealer was quoting. It is good to know that someone else bought from here. They don't make the GT40's anymore, but the Excalibur is selling for $7,980 now.

Thought after 90' that CC's with a 1:23 trans were standard rotation engines, with the trans running opposite the engine for a RH prop?

I am no expert but, the GT 40 is one of the strongest engines built. If you have water in the oil but all the freeze plugs are in place it is very unlikely that you have a damaged block or heads (2). I would actually suggest a riser gasket failure and a back seepage of water past valve seats and rings into the sump rather than a block failure due to freezing.
Suggest an oil and filter change and then run the motor, if she fills the sump with water then ok the block is scrap, if she runs fine and only fills with water when standing then look at the risers and manifolds.

                              Good luck
