The Blue Lake is a solid shape to get started on. It is a surf style board and you can play around with fin configs to get a different feel. If you get into 3s, Shuvs, Ollies, etc. those will be easier on a skim style board. I think it's great to have both types of board available because sometimes you just want to cruise and slash... other times you may want to spin. We currently have a Swallow and Black Pearl Yellow in our crew right now. Really digging the new Swallow, which is similar to the BL... just more responsive and aggressive. For Fins, we're running with the 9" standards plus the carbon mini mes and it is killer. If you ride a BL I'd recommend trying this fin config as well.

JT211... If the BL felt Sluggish then you probably needed larger fins to give the board more drive. Also, wake, speed, and size of the rider can all be factors too.

Broadcast is an awesome all around board for the money, construction and quality isn't that of an Inland but it's also cheaper too. I recently sold one a PN member. The one we had was a 4'8", which was back before they started making two sizes.

Check out the wakesurf forum on Wakeworld and search on the models you want info on to see if there are any posts.

You can also see every model side by side at http://www.wakeworld.com/Surf/.

I started on a 2003 HL Landlock and it was a fine board but the Inland Surfer Yellow Luge (now the 4-Skim i think) is a lot of fun. I am over 200lbs and had a hard time learning the yellow loogey but once you get it, it is hard to go back to anything else.

just checked www.wakeoutlaws.com out. seems nice that it is all dedicated to surfing, but first impression is that it is a bit hard to read with the black background and small white font. planetnautique and wakeworld aren't quite as avant-garde but they are easier to navigate and read. nice to know of another site though, thanks...

Before I improved the surf wake last Friday, on my Blue Lake I swapped out the std speed line fine for the "big boys" 11.5 cm and moved the stds inboard in place of the trick fins for more drive. Probably overkill for speed becasue the next time out I had the bow properly weighted and really improved the wave. But the ride was awesome.

The wife really enjoys the Black Pearl skim board. I have tried my friend's Yellow Skim and I want to try the Swallow or the Sweet Spot next. I hear the Sweet Spot is very popular and becoming hard to find.

I chose the Swallow over the Sweet Spot this year since my buddy has the Yellow Pearl. I really want to try to Sweet Spot at well.

As you can see, my wife loves the Swallow. This pic was taken this first time we had it out.
