RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Rankin Cover

Here is a pic of mine...not a Rankin, though. It just slips over the platform and velcros around the tower feet. Pull it tight on each side with the tag line and the ratchet pully keeps it tight. Gotta put the prop poles in before the final tightening.

I can put it on myself easily but it takes some walking around a lot. With two people, just roll it up like a sleeping bag as you take it off, then roll it back on....very fast and easy.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Rankin Cover

I'm so glad you guys are talking about this. I'm in the market for a new cover and have considered several options. I talked to David at White Lake for a while yesterday and they are using Carver covers (http://www.carvercovers.com/) for every new boat they well. Additionally, they're using a new material called Performance Poly-guard - See description:

"100% Marine-grade polyester. Highest tear strength available. 8 oz, strong and durable. UV and mildew resistant. Excellent resistance to fading. Extremely water repellant. Breathable to help allow interior moisture to escape.Made in USA.
      (5 Year Warranty)"

They offer a cover in this material (and sunbrella) for $500 and they have patterns for most if not all the models. David said at the boat show recently, they had boats out in the rain. The with the poly-guard covers just needed to be toweled off and were completely dry, which was not the case with sunbrella. He said they're ordering this kind of cover (instead of sunbrella) from now on.

My only hangup is they don't do side-skirts, which has been very important to me. However, they will sell me more material and I can get a local shop to make them for me.

I think given the price and functionality, I'll probably go with this. BTW, my old cover was canvas...very heavy and was starting to mildew.

My cover in the photo is a Westland Cover and I'm 99% sure it was provided by the selling dealer to the original purchaser. It has has a big NAUTIQUE logo right across the windshield. The material is nice and the fit is very snug. You can get it over platform or not; tower or not; and bow cutout or not. I think you can chose from three different materials and several colors.

I'm thinking about getting a two-piece over-the-tower cover made this year. One major reason is to keep speakers/lites on tower out of temptation site. I think it might also go on/off quicker and easier than having to deal with velcro around towers and stuff. Since it would shed water better because of steep slope it could be made out of a lighter material as long as it still has a high UV and breathability rating. Also thinking about a 12" or so flap to hang down on sides to provide a little extra sun protection.

Sure, call Brent Fleming at Coversports. Tel. 425-415-0860. Fax 425-482-9882. He doesn't do email and no longer maintains a website. He mostly works with dealers who just fax him orders. As far as I understand, he only does Correct Craft these days, but did covers for other manufacturers in the past. With my boat, I just told him year, model, no tower, and what color I wanted. Fit perfectly right out of the box.

Quoted turn-around was 1 week from time payment received. At the one week mark, he left me a message saying he was waiting on the webbing material to come in and that it would be another week. He included some extra j-hooks for my trouble. Overall, I was pleased with the product and process from start to finish.

Price shipped was $680 (broken down, I believe it was $615 for the cover, $25 to ship, and $40 upcharge for Jockey Red (color). The same cover from Rankin was $710 (I believe the upcharge for red was $50), but I'd already ordered this cover by the time I spoke with someone from Rankin.
