    New Coversports Cover

I finally got around to snapping some pictures of my new cover. After some consideration and recommendations, I decided to buy the trailerable cover from Brent Fleming at Coversports. As far as I understand, Brent is a former Rankin employee. He and Cory from Evolution worked together for a while and now he does, as best I could make out, only trailerable Nautique covers. The design appears to be very much like Rankin. There are rubrail hooks from the windshield all the way around the back. Cinch straps, one for the grab rail and four with rub rail hooks. and a drawstring that is tightened with a ratchet covered in webbing.

The price was a little less than the quote I eventually got from Rankin. It was supposed to have been done in a week, but there was about a week's delay, which he called me about so he could wait on some more webbing that he ordered. He included two replacement hooks on account of the delay, which was unnecessary, but appreciated.

I need to reevaluate how I have the ratchet set up. Brent said to call when I received it and he'd explain how it went together. He usually does work for dealers and didn't have printed instructions on hand.

    Anyway, here are some pictures.

That Maherajah ski bag is awesome.

That cover looks terrific, as does the boat. If I were to order an SN today, that would be the color scheme I'd go with. That cover looks identical to my Rankin but I see you have the J-hooks for the transom rub rail. I definitely have to get some of those for my Rankin.

That Maherajah is one giant ski. Lots of fun in rough water.

I really like the way this cover goes on, and once I figure out the ratchet for the drawstring, I'll be set. The J-hooks do really well in the rear. Joel, on the Ranking covers, are the hooks on the side attached with velcro. Seems like the way to go to keep it taught as it stretches over time.

As for the color scheme, it's exactly what I wanted and I got really lucky to find a boat in such good condition, so close, and in that color scheme.

Yes, they are attached with velcro on the Rankin. I've already readjusted them several times.

The cover looks great...I don't think I mentioned that in the other posts. Did you consider anything to cover the platform? Also, how easy or hard is it to put on?

RE: Re: RE: New Coversports Cover

Thanks! No, I did not get anything to cover the platform. My previous (now spare) cover covers the platform, which is certainly nice. But this boat is garaged most of the time, but is trailered a couple of hundred miles a handful of times per year. So platform coverage and a skirt were not anything I really need (and so I never asked about pricing for them or if he would do it.

As for putting it on, it's very easy. Just start at the nose and roll it back. Did the cinch strap at the grab rail first. Then there are about 3--4 j-hooks per side from the windshield on back on each side. I have a couple of extra hooks, so I need to make sure there are none forward of the windshield. After that, there are four j-hooks with cinch straps for the transom and a ratchet mechanism to bring the drawstring tight. Once I get used to it, I'd guess that it will actually be quicker to get put on than my old cover that had straps to hooks on the trailer all the way around (not considering having to put tent poles under it if it was outdoors.

Just a follow up. I called Brent at CS this afternoon and got the ratchet turnbuckle setup figured out. Easy as can be to put this cover on and get it tight.

Couple of questions. What material did Brent use? Do you know if he has other options or is that it material wise? Any problems so far with rubbing against the gelcoat? Other thoughts now that you've had it for a while?

                          Thanks,

The cover is sunbrella. It has not rubbed much, but I don't tow with it on the highway too often. Occasionally, I'll leave it on to tow in town. On the highway, there is some movement in front of the windshield, but I suppose that's what the extra padding there is for. So, for me, I prefer to not tow on the highway and, therefore, do not expect to see any rubbing as a result.

But, from the couple of times I did do it, it did not rub the gel coat.

I've been extremely pleased with the cover. No problems.

I do tow with my CoverSports cover on the highway, the road to our ramp is gravel so there is lots of dust the gets kicked up.
The cover has not rubbed or damaged our gel coat at all. If it were to rub/scratch the gel coat it would be above the rub rail where the 'J' hooks are.
I guess it is all personal preference about towing, but that is what these covers are made for.
