Only if I can see it back there. I lost one on a trip to Florida and only knew it when I came upon a well lit area on the highway. Luckily I kinda knew when it came off. Had to go back a couple exits to find it.

I have a custom cover with snaps below the rub rail and poles that keep the cover very tight. Your questions are going to depend on each persons cover that they use.
1. Do you trailer with you cover on?
Yes, except when backing the cover comes off so I can see through the windshield
2. If you have polls, do you take them out before you leave?
Yes, I have poles (2) and they are kept in place during towing.
3. How bad will this diminish the life of my cover if I do trailer it with the cover on?
Don't know, the boat is an '02 and I have the original cover. I have towed several times to Cumberland from OH -- 6 hours. Numerous local towing as well.
I did have some rubbing on the windshield that occured, but some pipe installation over the windshield bar solved that problem. I also had some gelcoat marks under the snaps for the cover that go around the tower legs, but that was solved with some velcro.SocBum
