    SAN project

I kicked around this idea for a little bit and last weekend put together my first attempt at an engine bay shelf for my 03' SAN. It's not complete but, it'll be a shallow shelf in the engine bay that'll hold a couple quarts of oil, rags etc.
Need to visit the local scrap metal shop and make real brackets and then build up a wood shelf with some resin.

Keep us updated Chris... That is something I've never thought about, but would be real interested in building myself.

I would be worried how hot it would get. Particularly for storing things like oil, oily rags, molotov cocktails, etc., but then again. What do I know? If it works it would be a nice little nook. I just get nervous with combustibles that close to the engine.

I'm sure oil, trans fluid, shop towels, etc. would be okay there. I wouldn't store an emergency can of gas there, but "maintenance" items would be fine. I wouldn't consider any of those items to be very combustible in that kind of enviornment.

I would probably come up with some kind of cargo net to keep things from flying off the shelf and into the moving parts of the engine. If anythingelse to keep from having to keep up a mess.

I don't think heat will be an issue. No gas will be stored there. Like I said it'll be a spot for storing extra oil, rag, impellor and maybe some tools. It's still a prototype stage. I put the piece of wood there just to see how it would fit and how big a bottom I can start with. The final product will be a short drawer like shelf unit that I can take out pretty easily if I need to get down in there for maintenance.

                    Nice.

But I'm thinkin' if you need to add two quarts of oil, you've got bigger trouble.

and maybe a big sheen on the lake Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

Of course if one of your buddies needs a quart....you might get better than marina prices for one of yours....location location location.

I might have to line it with Gator Grip if I find that things bounce around in the there and make noise.
