Car salesman gave me the "what would you be willing to pay" line years ago when we were out car shopping. I had my daughter (age 4), with me and she told him "5 bucks and a grapefruit". Priceless.

Exposed flotation on the underside of the deck is normal for a 196. In 02, 196's got recalled for not having this flotation present as it did not meet the Coast Guard requirements. I had in on my 05 and have it on my 09 196.

Back to your question of price. Make sure the boat is still considered brand new by PCM and by CC and the full warranty exists.
Assuming no special options and the boat is a limited with the Excalibur I would say in the low 40's. Just my opinion.

I would stand by my price guess, but no doubt this will vary by region. I would want some assurances (paranoid) from PCM that the warranty is still good for 3 years from date of purchase.

Perfect Pass should be a small subtract. Like it or not Zero Off is the standard on new boats. Dual axel for a 196 is uncommon (midwest) and should offset any subtract from the PP.

        Does it have the Hydrogate?

No ZO and Gate will lower the price in my opinion. Will also hurt possibly down the line with resale. Gate is not necessary for hardcore slalom skiers but it might lower the range of buyers.

If this is a dealer boat, and it must be with no hours on it, I would think they would jump on the opportunity to get this off of their floor plan. If your a skier this is a great boat and you won't regret pulling the trigger. Buy it and post some pics.

PCM should follow the CC "in service date" ....call CC with the HIN and get the "in service date" . If they have a date, it ain't new.

                    "took delivery" means "used"

Spud, I don't know where you are located but that sounds like a very good deal to me. Split the difference and you have a great boat at a great price. I think it is a good deal at 38K also.

I would still want to know how the warranty stood with CC and PCM.

Good luck and post some pics.

How long has it been sitting and in what environment? Do these engines have problems with seals/gaskets drying out? Other problems from sitting for extended periods. Aside from seals I'd thing a standard spring startup routine would be sufficient?
