    Swim Platform "Covers"

Hi. I have a 2000 Supersport with a teak swim platform. Attached to the hull under the swim platform are two plastic covers, covering the lifting cleats. They also cover cutouts in the swim platform. It's possible they add additional support to the swim platform, but does anyone know what they are for exactly? Do I need them ?
    Thanks

No support there I'm sure. I may be wrong but I think they just keep the water from shooting up through the cut out in the platform. I guess they would also keep you from using the rings for anything but lifting. I have ridden on boats that had them missing and really didn't see any difference. I will say that if you take them off make sure you seal up the screw holes so you don't have water leaking into the bildge.

The covers are also present to prevent exhaust fumes from coming up directly behind the boat.

Yes, that is the sole purpose of the plastic covers, to seal against CO. That is also why the swim platforms are now solid without any gaps between the wood. The covers are still available from CC and I suspect they alwasy will be available.

I could see the water shooting up the gap, but never considered CO. I thought the lifting rings would make great tie down anchor points, but I guess I'll continue to use the platform support brackets instead. Thanks for the info!
            Thanks

The problem with the covers is that if they are tight up against the swim platform and if there is any flex in the swim brackets you'll end up breaking them and at some point loose one or both. I got tired of replacing them and just put a piece of plexiglass up flat against the platform and then secured with a couple of screws.

I thought these covers were to eliminate anyone from towing things behind the boat with the rings. Since there only mission is to use as lifing rings, cc wanted to make sure nobody would tow tubes with them off the back since they are so close to the bottom of the boat and you could risk ripping off the platform. I dont see how exhaust fumes would be affected at all by these covers? You can buy new ones at your dealer. I cracked one of mine backing it to close in the garage.

If the covers were not present people the exhaust fumes would escape directly up from the back of the boat through these two vents.

It has nothing to do with tubing.
