    Replacement for 196

I first heard this rumour a couple of months ago and as nothing appeared on this site I dismissed it as just that.....a rumour.
However I have since heard it again from a couple of other people.
    So....
The rumour is that the Ski Nautique 196 model is being discontinued later this year and will be replaced by a slightly larger boat in 2010. I have heard it refered to as the " 200", which suggests that it is going to be inexcess of 20ft long.
There was also reference to it only coming in an open bow variant.

So guys as the source of all things Correct Craft, is there any substance to this rumour?

In this economy, I would not bank on it. They would be be retooling now and starting to make 2010s any day if that were the case. A quick factory tour would tell the story.

BASC, and all PN members, I have, and Jeff may also have info on lot's of matters pertaining to CC. I have info from an insider.

How inside you ask? As inside as you can get, you have my word of honor, which is worth it's weight in gold. As to BASCs' post, I can/will only verify one thing..............CC is not, WILL NOT stop making a closed bow SN. That's all I have been "authorized" to say.

A few other tidbit's of info I can share..............yes, there have been some lay off's at CC............HOWEVER, the R&D departments at BU and MC are gone. As in nobody's home. Why?! That dept. generates zero revenue. At the same time, CC has actually beefed up their R&D dept. PDT_001 PDT_001

I hope this eases the minds of everyone, as it did me, about CC's legacy of the SN. It's here to stay..............and why shouldn't it, they invented it.

        Regards to ALL!!!

          RE: Re: Replacement for 196

I heard about 2 years ago about the "200" not sure if it is the final name for the boat. I think it is going to be a little wider and little longer. At the end of the day it will be a closed bow boat. Wouldn't be surprised if you see an open bow version replace the 206 or 216.

Our local dealer mentioned this to me as well. He said the 200 would have a closed and open bow option. Iwould think this would take care of the 206 but who knows.

I really like the 196 and the 206 as they are. If CC chooses to ditch the 196 and go to a closed bow 200 I think there will be a HUGE uproar, and there will NOT be a lot of new inventory leaving the lot, as the 196 is a legend.

Why change the best boat on the market? It's an animal, or beast, if you will.... They have lots of other boats to do other stuff. I can't see it happening.

If they were to change it might make sense. The other 2 companies offer their best slalom boat as an open bow. Maybe cc wants to be able to do that. Sure they have the 206, but it doesn't ski as well as the 196. If they came up with a little bigger boat that ski's as well as the 196 that they can also offer as either an open or closed bow, it would make sense. I'll bet there are a lot of hardcore slalom skiers with families that want/ need a top notch wake plus the open bow. I they just stretched the bow a little maybe they could keep the running surface the same.

Then again I would think they could just offer the 196 in an open bow. Did they ever offer this hull in an open bow?

Yes, but they moved the cockpit back to accommodate the bow seating. I've always admired CC for putting the 196 as their go to boat for tournaments while everyone else out there went to open bow. As an owner of a 196, I recall how many choices I had in the closed bow market from CC while its competitors' closed bow models available noticeably tapered off after a certain point in time. As a person to whom a tower was a deal breaker, I may be in the minority here, but at whatever point I'm in the market for a newer boat, it will be a closed bow. If in the 200 CC sacrifices wake or handling or view from the cockpit for creature comforts, count me among the disappointed.

I am now on my 4th 196. Previous were a 99, 02 and an 05. These are all GREAT, no compromise, ski machines. IF CC decides to come out with a "200" in a closed bow version great, provided the boat improves upon all of the current skiing and driving characteristics of the 196. If it turns out to be a a compromise boat then shame on CC and my current 196 will be my last CC.

On the web cast, Bill Y was talking about a new boat comming out within 2 months. He did not tip his hat as to what boat it is but said they will make announcment soon.

I would be all over an open bow 20' boat that would be comparable in size to a PS197.
