Does the new ZR-409 have a closed cooling system? Does it still draw water from the lake? I'm a little confused understanding this cooling system that is different on the ZR motors...

It is my understanding that all ZR-6 motors have closed cooling standard. The motor still draws seawater, just not into the actual block. the seawater is used in the manifords only. Coolant is circulated through a heat exchanger then through the block. If you have a heater, the hose is routed to the front of the boat to the heater core. I hope this helps. I only know this, because I am trouble shooting a coolant leak in my 2007 236 with ZR6. Thanks, -

Think of the closed cooling system like this. Your car has a radiator, and the radiator transfers heat from the engine cooling water to the air.
A closed cooling system boat has a "radiator" but it is called a heat exchanger.
Old ZR motors had lake water go through the raw water pump, to the heat exchanger, to the exhaust risers, and out of the boat.
I think the coastal edition have sea water go through the raw pump, the heat exchanger, and out of the boat. The exhaust risers now have circulating water from the engine block.Comment
