2000 or 2001 super air nautique

So I'm looking at purchasing a 2000 or 2001 SAN. The seller says it is a 2001 but the back deck is a 1 piece like the 2000 model. I've talked to a dealership and of course they said you can look at the serial number and the last 2 digits should end in 00 or 01. But the dealership also said it could be possible it came from the factory like that. What do you guys think about this could it really be a 2001 if I know it was never modified? I know the seller so if it is a 2000 he is probably just telling me 2001 by mistake. My next question is besides the back deck are their any differences in the these 2 years that you guys would strongly urge me to go with getting a 2001 over a 2000? Can you take the two hard tanks out in the back and replace them with sacs without getting new pumps or spending much money other than buying the sacs? And last 2000 or 2001 the boats is white and yellow with a black tower in good condition over all with roughly 300 hours on it. What would be a good price to buy this boat at?

RE: 2000 or 2001 super air nautique

Definately just have your friend tell you the HIN, to find out what year it is. I suppose it is possible that CC make the back deck change mid year. I would think it hard to advise you on the value of a boat in this economy (nor do I know your location), but before the economy went south, I would suspect low to mid 20's to be about right.

FWIW, I paid $15k for my '99 Super Sport (outfitted like SAN from factory) with ALL the factory bells and whistles and less than 500 hours. I got it cheap because the interior was trashed ($3300 to replace). When I was doing research, the going rate seemed to be about $22,500 for a good condition '99.

Didn't the instruments change from analog to digital in '01...that might be another indicator of year. But, the HIN is the only real indicator.

in 2001 hey also got rid of the true "wrap around seating" so if there is not a seat directly behind the driver (almost touching the drivers seat) then you will know its a 2001. On the other hand if it does have full wrap around seating, and a one piece deck, I think you will have to break it to your buddy that he is selling a 2000
if con is the opposite of pro, is congress the opposite of progress???

The instruments are digital on the '00. Also, I think '00 is the only year where the stereo on the arm rest has the factory cover.

There are two clues in the HIN about the year of the boat. With most boats made in the last 20 or thirty years, the last four digits have the form of a alphabet letter, and three numbers. The last two numbers are the model year of the boat. 00= 2000 model year, 02= 2002 model year.
The letter, and the number indicate the month and year of manufacture.
          A= January, B= February, ... L= December.
Example, my boat last four digits "J697" made in October, of 1996. model year 1997. Another boat, last four digits, C101, made in March, of 2001, model year 2001.

The following information might have changed recently. I have not been around newer Correct Craft boats. It was true in 2003.
The five digit serial number of the boat also has a clue about the model year of the boat. The first digit of the five digit serial number is the last digit of the model year of the boat. My boat, 70344. The 7 means it it a 1997 boat, in my case.
The 0 in the second digit, by the way, means it was a Ski Nautique.
I think Correct Craft used a second digit of 5 for Sport Nautiques, and 7 for Super Sport Nautiques.

Between 2000, and 2001, I do not think there were any major changes. They all had the GT-40 engine available in them, GM 5.7 engines were an option, and I think the Python (GM 8.1, or 8.2 engine) was an option.

More opinion. Both years of boats already had the mistake of the harder to read, unreliable Teleflex digital gauges in them. These gauges would often lose track of the engine hours, and also would often quit working. Do not trust the hours on a Teleflex digital gauge from these years of boats, look at service records, and possibly hours on a Perfect Pass if it was installed.
If the boat in question has a GM engine in it, I think it is possible to get the engine hours from the engine computer, but you cannot do this with the Ford engines.

Many minor changes are made in Correct Craft boats at any time of the year. They do not wait for a model year to change to change something minor. A good example, in 2002 early in the model year, you could get a GT-40 engine. By the end of the 2002 model year, the GT-40 was no longer available.

Besides the last two digits of the HIN, many of the 2000 Correct Crafts have the "75th Anniversary" diamond decal in the window. Not that this should be a trusted source but could be a quick indicator for you. There are no real substantial differences between these years. I would take the best boat for the money and not worry too much about the year (if these are your only two options).

I have the yellow 2000 and here are a couple things about it if it helps. it will have the diamond 75th aniv stickers on both sides of the windshield. It will also have a 75th aniv decal on the port side rear. The factory stereo has a flip down cover that matches the gray side panels. Seats completely wrap around, and there is maybe a foot of room in between the driver seat and seat directly behind it. MPH and RPM gauges are digital (mine had to be replaced this winter, went ahead and replaced them with analog). I don't know if the plumbing is any different in the 2000 to 2001 but the hot/cold shower is situated in the cubby hole on the port side of the boat. If i think of anything else I'll let you know. My vin does end in 00 by the way.
