To snap or not to snap

Ok, what is everyones take on a snap down cover. SANS came with a tie-to -trailer cover with a 360 degree draw string that is a pain. Liked the snap on cover I had on my last boat....yes, there were visible snaps on the gelcoat but the cover went quick, easy, and tight.

Just not sure I can get myself to let someone drill all those little holes in my new 230

    What do you all have?

RE: To snap or not to snap

You can get a snap cover that has snaps to go under the rub rail. I have one with the snaps - I absolutely hate it!!!! I Bought one with the draw string 2 weeks after having the snaps. To each his own though....

Search the board -there was a thread on here talking about the snap covers a couple of weeks ago - I think there is a place in FL that makes them

The cover on my new 210 has two ratchets in the rear that tightens the cover below the rub rail.
Its quick and east without drilling.

when I bought my boat I insisted that they not install a snap cover and if they did, it was ground for me to back out of the deal.

            no snaps!

Very few snaps under the rub rail (and I mean screwed into the bottom of the rub rail - not the gelcoat) isn't too bad just to hold cover in place. But the drawcord is best.
              Peace..

I replaced my tie-to-trailer with drawstring cover for a Rankin: No Snaps and it is very easy.

If you must use snaps, place them on the underside of the rubrail and NOT the gelcoat. Better yet, use a cover with a good ratchet (Rankin or Covercraft, just to name two).

Bought my 91 Sport used last year. Has snaps under the rubrail. I don't think I would add them if they weren't already there but I like it fine and it works well.

i am in the minority here---> last 4 boats had strap/ratchet type covers. this one has a tow piece snap on cockpit cover/bow tonneau cover.

                            pros:
---it appears to be under less stress when towing w/ the cover on than the strap versios
---absolutely more secure when towing that ones that just ratchet and do not affix to the trailer
---bow tonneau can be use separately to block wind on cold days
---way easier to put the cover on solo than a 1 piece cover

                            cons:
---potential to rip snaps out of cover (a little caution goes a long way)
                            ---unsightly ***gasp*** snaps
---potential to step on exposed snaps (minimize if they are not on a horizontal surface

i will insist on a two piece snap on cover from now on....
