I've been on a center console fishing boat (cat) in the ocean and we had a leak in one of the hulls. We hurried back to the inlet and checked the bilge. The battery was completely under water but everything was still working, i.e. bilge. I'm no electrician but I believe water a conductor of electricity. If the boat I was on had electronics working underwater, why shouldn't this guy's electrical system operate...although three days is a long time for a battery to last. BTW, I'm not saying it was good that the battery was underwater and I don't know the condition of the boat now. If anyone starts bashing me on the validity of what I've just posted, I have three other people to back me up.

One note, years ago a cousin of mine had is Toyota pickup swept away in a low water crossing. He was in it until it grounded in a bend. After he got out and made it to shore, it noticed that the truck was underwater and his tail lights were still on.

The big problem with water, and metals, or electricity is this. If you have two different metals, and they touch, and there is water present, it forms a weak battery, and one metal is eroded away. Every place in the entire electrical system there is a connection, you have different metals, one metal is eaten away.
Putting a battery in the mix only makes things worse. Anything closer to the positive post of the battery is eroded away.
Once a connection gets wet, and if they are under several feet of water, they will, that and every other connection starts to get worse, it has more resistance. More resistance, and the connection heats up, and that makes the connection degrade even more.
Now lets think about the engines computer. lets even say the inside of the computer remains sealed, and does not get any water in it. A lot of the sensors on the motor work off about five volts. If you add a little resistance, that and possibly many more sensors are now feeding the engine computer wrong data, and your engine runs poorly, if at all.
Because of the time it can take for the connections to degrade, you could very easily accept your boat, and believing it is all fixed, sign off on what you think is a generous check from the insurance company, and later you find many more problems crop up.

I don't think the intent of this thread is to "Bash" anyone here. We are all Nautique owners and there have been some interesting points brought up. Some that we all try to learn through other peoples experience. This particular thread originally caused sympathy for LvnSpeed through his misfortune and we offered advice as though it were genuine (It may very well be). After various details were scrutinized and shown in a different light, I must say my sympathy grew shorter from the evidence brought up (Not to say it is, or isn't true we can only go from what the story says). None of us would like to have bought a boat that has sunk for 3 days and is represented as "Perfect" especially from another respected site member. I like to think that on this site, we are watching out for each other, at least a little bit. I can't say it is, "Out of control" either to review what happened and try to figure out how we all can avoid Lvn's problems too. All of us could see this happening to us at some point if we are not careful. But if after reviewing the various scrutonized items, we find there are holes in the presented story, I must say I feel better that this chain of events might not happen to me. On the other hand, if the details do "Hold water" (No pun intended), ie. the battery lasts 3 days, boats of that era do sink, bildge can't keep up with drain, insurance companies don't pay, thieves abandon boat at dock, revised "sale" postings weren't posted, etc..., I would say I might do things different in my world to avoid this same tradgety Lvn has experienced with his boat. We are smart people on this site and you can't just throw out stories and expect us to all believe anything that is posted like a bunch of sheep without some level of scrutiny. I will get off my soap-box now...

Its the posts and timeline that have some scratching their heads...I think its just a bad coincidence. Let's cut him some slack. If it was my boat I would be pissed to be without it. Good luck...Progressive just dissapointed me on another matter, hopefully you have better results with your claim and company.

I have 890 hours (yes I use mine a lot)(it takes 3-4 hours to got from one side of my lake to the other and a full tank of fuel) on it where a frind of mine lives. There is Nothing wrong with the motor or the tranny or the boat for that matter. If you like we can go for a ride before you buy it.The boat looks clearer then my buddy’s 07. When I say perfect, it’s perfect. Mine lives on a hydro hoist on my lake (Fresh Water). Always covered, washed after every weekend. My boat has been serviced at Ryan Creek marina every time I take it there they (Ryan Creek) hate to work on it because I make them put covers over EVERYTHING, I am a little anal. I really don’t want to get rid of my boat I LUV IT. I am looking to buy an open bow and I found a 206 I am interested in need to move this one. $25,000 OBO

Did Huston Motors cut a crazy deal due to high hours (880) for a 2003 196 (or other factors)? Can't see the benefit of someone saying they paid 12k for a boat that cost 22k - 23k, especially if they may be selling it on the same forum a few months later.
Also, if the boat had 880 hour on it in August and only 890 on Feb 2, there must not have been many of those 3 hour across the lake boat rides.

First, I am not trying to be harsh at all, but here is what I find confusing:
(1) In your first post on this thread, you indicate that you took the boat to Ryan Creek on 1/25/09, two days after you pulled it out of the lake. Thus, I assume you pulled it out of the lake on 1/23/09.
(2) Looking back in the classified section, I see that you advertised your boat for trade on 1/22/09, and you poseted updates on 1/23/09, 1/25/09, and 1/28/09.
(3) You then had a second classified ad, this time for sale not trade, that you posted on 2/2/09, with updates posted on 2/4/09, 2/10/09, and 2/16/09.
In your ads, you state that the boat " is in PERFECT shape ".
Do you see why I and some others might be confused? I know I may be missing some of the details, but I am having a hard time understanding the timeline.
The dates are wrong it happened in Feb not Jan but I couldnt edit the post. For venting porposes it really didnt matter. But I guess it does. The Theft happened on 2/22 according to the police report.2003 226 LE

This thread is ridiculous at this point. Lvn, I keep going back an forth on what to believe. You keep defending the holes that get poked in your story. Then more get poked into it. I think a lot of the guff you are getting has been brought on by you. You should proofread a couple times before you post, keep your stories straight and this would not happen. There are way too many inconsistencies to not bring them up.
