This thread is great. I feel like I'm reading the script to some TV series drama. I don't know Lvnspeed personally, but you always want to give people the benefit of the doubt. The perception of the events are difficult because of the timeline with regard to selling the boat and the price he paid for it does have that smell of intent to deceive, which is really the only track record he really has (making it difficult to give benefit of doubt). The three days under water is not exactly clear or important. I think he said it could have been under water for three days given the last time they recall seeing the boat vs. noticing it's dissappearance. If someone in fact tried to steal the boat, it could have happened only hours before they noticed it. His description about finding the boat and bringing it up is totally believable; oil/gas/liquids coming to surface, air trapped in bow enough to rest it nose up, but not bring it to the surface, winching it up and draining.

I have an aquantance (not a friend) that went on vacation a few years ago. He is one of those super CHEAP suckers that is always trying to save a dime at the expense of others. Anyway, when he left he turned off his furnace because he didn't want to pay to heat the house while they were gone. It was extremely cold that week and when they returned the house had flooded due to pipes freezing inside the house. When the insurance adjuster inspected the place, he told the guy that he couldn't remember what he set the temperature at (knowing good and well that he in fact turned it OFF). Anyway, he manipulated the facts of his personal blunder to force the insurance company to pay for it. Whenever someone mentions his name, that is the first thing I think of...he's a coniving cheat and lier and I wouldn't trust him with anything. The insurance company shelled out thousands to repair the house, all because he told the adjust a lie that was too difficult to verify.

The thing is, although many pieces of the story are completely comprehendible, the whole thing put together has a bunch of gaps that people are interpreting as potential intent to deceive. I'm not accusing at all (again benefit of doubt always), but a person could just as easily forget to put the plug in (I've done it twice personally) but this time the boat really does sink. You try to revive the boat as best you can but once you realize that you're screwed, you combine truths and falacies to present your case to insurance and wha-la...someone else has paid for your blunder. I say this not as an accusation, but rather a justification for why others (including myself) are so intruiged with the whole thing and we want to see the outcome of the script.

If indeed Lvnspeed forgot to put the plug in and the boat sank, why make up a story. Insurance covers the stupid things we do...that is what insurance is for. Certainly causing a boat to sink from your own stupidity is covered. Why bother covering it up. I for one believe Lvnspeed and wish him luck in getting his boat either repaired or replaced.

Why did your acquaintance have to lie to the insurance company. Don't they also cover stupid things people do?

I believe the property portion of his homeowners insurance policy covered Damage caused by pipes that burst or other accidental malfunctions within the home, provided there was no sign of neglect on the part of the homeowner. I think it was still a good h0-3 policy, so that must be the norm not to cover negligence. Otherwise, there would be insurance fraud all over the place (probably is anyway).

[Boat is kept on a floating boat lift called an Air Floater (like a hydorhoist) on a floating dock with open sides. The reason I left the drain plug out was when it rains the wind blows the rain water onto the boat and at times not all the time but at times it collects a good amount of water in bilge. So this way it will just run out the drain plug and not flood the boat while its on the lift.
The reason why we think it was gone (underwater)for 3 or so days is a freind went by on Wednesday in a boat (he didnt stop just drove by)and didnt see the boat(I was there on Saturday before this happened and the Saturday after it happened). He just assumed I had pulled it out of the water to do something to it (maintenance or what not). The reasons why I think it was attempted to be stolen:
                1) Lock on the control box for the lift was missing
                2) Lock on the saftey valve for lowering the boat to the water missing
                3) Saftey valve on the lift was open (I close/lock this valve evreytime we leave incase the hose going to the control box was ever to break the the lift would still stay a float)
                4) I always trun off the main power switch next to the drivers seat. I was on when we found the boat
                5) The boat cover is still missing it had straps going under the boat from side to side. It had been on the boat for almost a year and never came off on its own.
                6) There was a cable and lock that went from the bow eye (where you hook when its on the trailer) to the metal frame of the dock. It now missing also.

The house is our second house and we dont spend alot of time there in the winter plus we just had a baby in Dec. Most of our nieghbors are only there on weekends. We (we meaning everyone on the lake)have had a lot of boat thefts and lots of stuff like radios and equipment stolen in the past year out on the lake.

Ok, I don't think Lvn is a liar, but I have now seen embelleshment multiple times....Here again:
                  5) The boat cover is still missing it had straps going under the boat from side to side. It had been on the boat for almost a year and never came off on its own.
You bought the boat in August and it turned up missing in February...I'm not a professional mathematician but that's 6 months..not almost a year.

But, I will say the details you have outlined for why the plug was out make perfect sense...But, to go to that extreme to protect my boat from theft with the rest of it really makes me glad I live in the midwest.

That's the problem with forums as its difficult to interpret all the details. Hope it works out for you in the end. Maybe we can call off all the private investigators on this site now and cut you some slack.

I can totally believe that this was a theft attempt. There has been alot of theft activity on the lake over this winter and alot of folks have had their homes broken into and boats stolen. These crooks amaze me though. They had the sense to figure out how to get around the access code on the keypad, planned enough to have had a trailer waiting somewhere (theoretically), but were apparently too stupid to figure out how to put the plug in when they realized it was taking on water.

Lvn - any update on Ryan Creek or the insurance or CCs position? I'm sorry you are having this problem, and hope you can get it solved quickly and get back out on our beautiful lake.

Waiting for Ryan Creek to get the motor ECU installed and the new Key pad so they can see if there is anything wrong with the motor or tranny. Then they (Insurance) will make there decision from there. I am trying to keep my cool with Ryan Creek and the Insurance company.

Unrealted note I just bought some IP based motion senser cameras so if the theives come back I can get a picture of them..... I was playing with the cameras last night and they seem to do pretty well in the dark. Got some photos of rain (not what I was expecting) and a cat walking along the side of my house in G-dale. I am going to try to install them out at the lake this weekend.
