Ok, so I officially went for a test drive on a 2009 Super Air Nautique 2009 and really loved the boat from a fit/finish, features, handling perspective.
The part that worries me a little bit is the wake (however based on what I read here, it shouldn't). I just wanted to state what I observed from the boat and get opinions from people who have actually ridden behind the boat. All I am really interested at the point is wakeboarding.
What I observed was a very different looking wake. No matter whether we were running no ballast or the stock ballast, the wake has a little bit of wash on both sides closer to the boat but it seems like it cleans up a little farther out before it ends up rolling over way farther out. I don't think I ever saw a wake that had the little bit of wash right up at the narrow part of the wake. I also noticed this in the video. With that observance in mind, here are my questions:
1) It appears that in the riding zone, the wake is clean and doesn't wash out at all.
2) I assume since I hear people running a lot of weight in these boats, that it keeps this characteristic even with additional weight. Some boats don't handle weight above stock well.
3) What weights, speeds, line lengths are most people riding?
4) Based on my reading, can you confirm that it is a steeper, poppy wake with a decent transition vs. a very long ramp.
Once again, I am not trying to come across negative, just stating an observance which was a little cause for concern. If I do proceed forward with the boat, I will obviously have to ride behind it as I know more than anyone that you can't tell a wake from just looking at it from the boat, you have to ride it.
Any insights / info is appreciated. Overall, it was a fantastic test ride, I just wish I didn't already have a perfectly good 2008 model boat that I would have to unload first.
