    stainless steel through hull fitting

Just wondering if the new stainless port holes wound fit on an 00 air. For the ballast, bilge ect? They would look much better than the plastic ones on mine.

      Josh -

I know it's a little late for this info, but I went through the same situation. I have a 2000 Air (direct drive). It had the cheap plastic thru hull fittings for the bilge pumps. My doesn't have the OEM ballast tanks.

The original fittings has a 90 degree bend. This allows for a straight connection for the hoses. Without the 90, the hoses would probably be subjected to a severe kink. Thus causing flow restriction. Also, being so close to the speakers, a straight fitting may not be feasible.

I did a lot of calling and web surfing looking for stainless thru hull fittings. I could not locate any product/ manufacturer that sold or made a stainless steel fitting with a 90 degree bend. The stainless fittings are all straight.

What I found out after talking to the local Correct Craft dealer is that the thru hull fittings on the new boats appear to be stainless steel. But they're really just plastic thru hull fittings with a stainless bezel. They're also slightly bigger in diameter and a little longer (about an inch). The hose bib size will directly connect to the existing hoses.

I went ahead and purchased two (around $25.00) of the small OEM stainless bezel thru hull fittings. I used a mini diegrinder with a carbide cylinder cutting blade and enlarged the hole in the boat. Added a little caulk and installed the fittings. The hoses fit perfectly.

Now the boat looks like it should.

Lastly, I assume the OEM fittings should work on other 2000 Air (direct drive) boats. But I highly recommend you remove the old fittngs and measure the clearance to make sure there are no obstructions that would affect installation of the new fittings.
