Hello everyone, I am having trouble getting the scum line cleaned on my boat. I have a cottege on a channel that leads to the lake, and the water is not as clean as the lake. I bought a boat lift but my slip that is cut into my property was to shallow and I am waiting for a permit to have it dug deeper. It looks like I will have to do it in the spring. In the meen time I have been tieing it up to my dock for three to four days at a time before pulling it out to clean it. I have been using viniger and water but still can see the scum line. This is my first summer on my first CC (89 ski nautique), you can see pictures in one of my earlyer posts. This boat is a true joy to drive, we have put almost 50 hours on it in the last month and a half. Thanks

Nelbird,
The vinegar and water is generally good for cleaning off water spots. You are going to have to get a heavier cleaner to remove the algae. We use boat washing acid to remove the slime. After that, it is a good idea to wash it again with soapy water to help nuetralize the acid.
Hope this helps,

Nelbird,
Give Penatrol a try.
I cleaned mine up earlier this summer after neglecting to clean it before winterizing it last winter.
Works great - Scum line came right off.
I wiped down the whole hull & trailer with it.
Check out results by clicking on my sig below.
Good luck w/ the 89!From Southeastern Ma.

Try Sno-Bol toilet bowl cleaner...I used it on the white portion of my boat and wow! You will need to wipe it on and then rinse it off. I usually have a soapy bucket. Also, it's about $3 for the Sno-Bol and the others are usually more money.
Oh, and don't forget to wax after using the product...it strips the wax off.

Make your life easy. Get an empty spray bottle. Create a mixture of 50% Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner (the thick blue stuff) and 50% hydrogen peroxide. Spray it on, agitate with a sponge, hose off. You will never know the boat was ever wet. It will cost you close to nothing and is far less caustic than the various acid products. This is the best thing to use on water line scum I've ever seen.2001 Malibu Sunsetter VLX (don\'t trash me).

Would like to have seen the R & D for the first guys trying to work up these formulas....Might have led to some funny results until the mixes were correct.88 Ski Nautique

Just came to this site when I have a question about my Nautique (1998)... needed to clean the hull and scum line. I tired the water/vinegar then wax and it was incredible! Thanks a million. I'll post a picture soon to show the results. It's looks brand new.

3M Imperial Microfinishing medium cut rubbing compound is what I used on my '91 SN. For scum stains, just rubbing it on by hand is all you'll need to do. On mine I had a lot of heavy oxidation, so we used a power buffer to apply. This product is available at auto parts stores. This product is labeled clear coat safe. If you go with an imitation product, make sure it has "clear coat safe" on the label. You're boat will look better than brand new. Finish 'er off with some wax and you're all set.Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. I've used a product called "Slimy Grimy" with great results for a number of years. Typically you spray it on and hose it off. It was originally introduced just for boat bottoms. A Marina here in the Northeast introduced me to it. Check out their site:
