if everyone was lazy then we'd all be americans. oh, we are
Doesn't the USA still have the highest productivity of any country in the world? We have longer workdays and do not have 6 plus weeks of holiday in the summer like most industrialized nations. For many of us, an 8-hour workday is a light day and a rare blessing. That is not lazy enough in my book.

We haven't been in the top 10 since 1964. We are currently about 17th in the world, tied with France, and with all of northern Europe well ahead of us. By some estimates we'll loose another 3 or 4 positions in the coming 24 months as we increase unionization and countries like Germany, France, and others move towards more capitalist structures. In manufacturing we've sunk from #5 in 1970 to #34 in 2002 for per capita production. For manufacturing per worker production we've gone from #3 in 1970 to #18 in 2002 (eg, individual workers in 17 countries produce more goods per year than individual workers in the US.)
