Hi, I'm looking for a new boat, one that won't suck totally to ski and tube behind but still has the ability to be a decent wakesurfing boat. At 41, I see wakeboarding as painful and want to go more casual...don't need best wakesurf wake, just to be able to enjoy it. I'm thinking a super air doesn't meet the tube/ski requirement. So, I'm looking at 2004 211's and am wondering if there is any hope to wakesurf behind a 01-04 pro-air without tons of mods. thanks

RE: Old Man Thinks Wakesurfing Next Phase
I am with you. At 46, I am learning to wakesurf this summer behind my new to me '99 NSS/SAN. Lot's to figure out, especially how to create a good wake. I already know ballast upgrades are in my future.

get a wakesurf rope - hear of people getting hurt by rope or handles...

You won't find a lack of enthusiasts for the 211 on here. I have an '08 and surf behind it regularly as do kids. I still prefer a 196 for skiing, but for a multi-purpose cross boat the 211 does the job. I asked my wife for a used 196 for my 50th birthday but she didn't come through. Maybe for my 60th...

Cool. Can you wakesurf behind your 211 with the stock ballasts? If not, how do you set your boat up for wakesurfing? What speed do you run? Thanks

Yes, if you have enough folks on board, like 3 to 4 adults plus the surfer. Was out yesterday - my first attempt - got up fine (I.S. Blue Lake) and found the pocket, rope went slack but just didn't seem like I could stay in the wake if I let go. Going about 9.5. Also think I had too much ballast in the aft port locker and walk through, wake was washy. Full port ballast tank, 360# in pop bags in port locker walkthrough area and 200# in fatsac in the ski locker. Had the hydro-gate between 2 and 3. (Experts: please critique.)
When we finished we were cruising back and with two adults on the observer's side, the wake had a much better shape. Had 3 guys total on board.2010 Super Air Nautique 210 Team Edition

Currently we just have stock ballast, no fatsacs or pop bags. Smaller folks can surf either side with no problems, those over about 110 are better sticking to port. We usually fill port 100%, Star about 40% and belly about 80%. Usually have a couple of adults sitting on port side, maybe one or two in bow as well. Some people prefer gate up, some prefer gate down. The only time we've had any probs is when my son tried surfing with his skim board and never got in the pocket consistently.

Go 211 or 216. We have found that 10-11 mph in a big slow turn in the same direction you have the boat weighted sets up a nice big, whitewater-free, smooth wake/pocket.Peace..
