Taking Water in Gas Vent While Surfing?????

Has anyone ever done this? There is currently a thread on WW related to someone doing this with a Malibu Response.... Anyway, someone with a SAN posted saying that he always covers his vent('s?) with duct tape and pokes small pin holes in them to prevent taking in water.....

I just started surfing 2 weeks ago and love it.... I also never even thought about this posibility happening.......

Anyway, before I surf again.....I would like to be clear that I am not taking a chance of putting a quart of water in my gas tank....

We surf quite a bit, and we’ve never even come close to taking water into the gas vent, and we usually run quite a bit of weight on that side. In order to take water in the vent, you’d about have to have water coming over the side of the boat. Seems like this would only be a driving error or extremely over weighted scenario…

I read Swass's post on WW, for anyone interested you can find it here:

That’s a completely different boat than a SAN. E.J. you are correct about the location of the gas vent. I can’t imagine that going under water on a SAN unless you have some other very serious issues.

Luke, yes understand the Response is a totally different boat....did you see where the guy in 3rd post says his(or the) SAN does the same thing and he covers his vent with tape....

I agree Luke, if what I have assumed was and apparently is, the gas vent...if I swamp that for any substantial time, I have more problems than some water in my gas. Just odd that a SAN owner is saying he tapes up his vent......

Yeah, I read that... Seems pretty strange to me. I'm pretty anal about only letting experienced drivers drive my boat when we have it weighted for surfing. I could see how an inexperienced driver could easily get into some trouble when weighted like that.

Its easy to take water in your locker vents while wakesurfing, but not your gas vent.

where is the Gas Vent on a SAN?

where is the Gas Vent on a SAN?

we always have the three holes (on the rear left side) under water while surfing!

what are the holes for anyway?
right side 1 outtake waterbalast, 2 bilge outtake, 3 ???
              left side 1 outtake waterbalast, 2 ???, 3 ???
