    thinking of buying!?

1999 Ski Nautique w/213 hours. This would be my first boat. Other than sitting in a lake all summer & a slightly dinged up prop it's nice. What should I look for? What should I ask? It's got the 310 hp engine & my test drive went great! Started nice ... strong pull .. It just needs a real "going over". Will the lake scum come off? The carpets are moldy.. can this be taken care of? Any & all comments are welcome. Thanks much! John Erickson

Yes, with some elbow grease and chemicals it will look great. Ask how long since the last oil/tranny fluid and fuel filter changes. Its realy nice to see records, but alot of people dont keep them. Does a trailer go with it?

Dont run it much with a dinged up prop, its hard on the tranny. The stock prop is an oj 4 blade.

Good luck if you decide to purchase, I couldnt imagine not owning an inboard.

It probably would not hurt to have a compression check done. I'd also question the owner about winterization procedures in the past. I'd want to know if the fuel was stabilized--if the boat has been sitting around. In my mind, the best thing to do is take the boat for a full day and use it. That will tell you alot. Not sure if the owner would be willing though. Definitely get the prop replaced or repaired. A nice four blade Acme would really wake things up.

The slime will come off. There are solutions out there for that sort of thing. The carpet mold will come out with some bleach and water. Light on the bleach, though, and suck it all up with a good shopvac. You're lucky its a closed bow--otherwise, the mold becomes a bit of a hassle under the bow seating on a SNOB.

      Good luck.
