    Wake Gate vs trim tab

I have a buddy who has a wake gate on the back of his 206 Nautique it doesnt seem to change the wake very much. I noticed some of the newer boat builders put a single tritab in the middle/bottom of the transom does it work better thean the wake gate?

I would like to install one of these this winter but not sure witch is more effective.

If your 206 is an 05', basically your hull is shaped like the Hydro-Gate is down, notice the ridge in the center section of the very back of the Hull.
Adding a Hydro Gate would only be effective if you ground out that ridge first. What exactly are you trying to accomplish with the wake?

sounds like more work than it's worth. If it's that important, I'd upgrade boats.

Looking to have a boat that I can solom behind wake board and wake surf behind so the goal is to be able to make big enought to wake surf but be able to empty the tanks and solom in the mornings and evenings then when the lake gets sturred up go wakesurfing and wakeboarding.

Those devices (the CC hydro Gate and the Supra/Moomba wake shaper) are designed to apply some down force on the water which inturn
causes to stern of the hull to rise. essentially reducing the wake. The 206 with the device is an 2006 or newer and as it is already a ski boat
I agree you will not see too much of a difference, the 206 is pretty much designed not to make a wake. On the other boats with the wake
shaping device they (at least in the case of the Moomba GG edition) make considerable more wake with the plate up so putting the plate down
helps to soften the wake and make the boat a little more crossover type.
If you are trying to create a bigger wake you would need quite a bit of added weight to the 206 or if you were really extreme and wanting to
add a device - one would look at the Malibu wedge (which lowers to force the hull/stern lower in the water acting as if there was weight in the boat).

Isn't the 206 just a 6" shorter version of the old Sports and Air DDs? My 99 Air definitely has a rideable wakeboard wake. It's ski wake is rideable, but not tournament quality. I have not been successful in getting a surf wake yet, albeit I have only tried once, and then only half-heartedly. I have the ability to put about 700 pounds of water ballast in the rear hatch and 400-450 in the ski locker. That makes a very respectable wake with a decent but not tournament quality clean sweet spot. I am still tweaking, but so far am very satisfied. If the 206 has a similar hull shape, you should be able to make a pretty good wake with ballast.

              Chexi,

The 206 is 6" shorter however the hull is different, TSC2 or 3 while the Air/Sport is TSC1. Having owned a Air/Sport also I can say the slalom/footing wake on the 206 is quite a bit better while the Wakeboard wake is equally smaller. Never tried to surf behind the 206, it may be possible but regardless having any boat do Everything well is a tall order.

So Quinner, when your Air (twin to mine) burned up you went to a boat with a smaller wake? Blasphemy!
