master ignition switch won't shut off

I have a new 206. The master switch worked as advertised until last night. Now I can't get the switch to go to the all off position or the bilge only position (the toggle moves like it should but the engine instruments and all esle that was on remains on. I don't have to enter any code to start the boat) any suggestions?

    RE: master ignition switch won

I'm not sure what to say about the toggle switch. Maybe the guts broke and the connection will stay in the all power mode or maybe it wasn't wired correctly.

On the code business, you need to program your primary user code and then a code will be required. If only the master embedded code is in (factory), then no code is required. This feature is discussed in your manual and in several posts by me on this site.

I have a secret code entered but now the toggle switch just keeps everything powered and I can't turn this toggle off. .this is slowly draining the battery and gives anyone an opportunity to start my boat i.e. kids just like to press buttons.

If I were to disconnect the battery and try for a reset would my secret code be still available???

      Thanks

Code should remain, as an example when I remove the battery during layup the code works in spring when the battery is installed.

It does sound like you are in the Master Code mode. Does the "bilge only" light illuminate when switched to that position?

yes the light is on for the bilge only mode. There is still an amber light illuminated on the instrument (start) panel when the toggle is in any of the three positions. I haven't seen this amber light on before except when the toggle was in the up position and the code entered for starting

sounds like you have a bad key pad, but you may have a back feeding problem in the master relay switch.

I believe the toggle switch is bad or maybe the relay.

You can disconnect the battery if you want and then put it back on to see if the keypad powers up. It shouldn't. Once the toggle is turned on, there shouldn't be any lights on the keypad until you start entering the code. You should try now to program your primary user code. The instructions are in your manual and on this site and very simple. Follow them closely.

If none of this works and everything stays powered....disconnect the battery and take her to the dealer.

Get that Primary User Code set.

Sounds to me like the toggle switch is bad not the keypad.

You should be able to pull out the switch and replace it at a fairly low cost or the dealer should perform this check under warranty because it is new.

Thanks for the inputs. The toggle switch started to work the way it is supposed to without doing anything. The toggle started to mess up friday night when there was a light rain falling. Now that it has been dry the switch is working as advertised.

RE: Re: master ignition switch won

That explains your problem and mine. Two weeks ago I pulled my honey from the boat barn to the house to shine her up. I got hit by a squall on the way home. We started working on the boat and my sound wanted some tunes. He turns on the toggle and but no power to the keypad. I pulled the keypad out and there were no signs of water entry.

After I while I took it back to the barn and put in the keypad....all was well.

That toggle is uncovered and pointed to the sky begging for water entry.

I've seen others complain of no power after a rain. That brings up another question I'll ask later on a new post.
