Ballast puppies in an '03 210?

When did CC go to the ballast puppy style of pumps for the ballast systems? I would like to one day upgrade the pumps in my '03 210 but would like to keep the system factory appearing. Has anyone replaced the factory pumps with someting like the ballast puppies on that model before? I'm not sure, but I think there would be enough room under the rear tanks to mount a pump there after removing the factory empty pump. The belly tank might take a little more creativity since these motors cannot get wet.

    RE: Ballast puppies in an

2007. I put mine on an aluminum bracket on the front port corner of the engine compartment. I always recommend that people yank the old stock system and put in a bag system in the rear. The bulk of the cost is the pumps, hose, and wiring anyway. This way you gain a decent amount of storage space, and then have much more weight capacity when you do fill up. Just my opinion.

I believe the change was made in the 07 model year. I also have an 03 SAN and have kicked around the idea of replacing the factory set up with the Jabsco pumps. It is a pain to have to constantly open and close the ball valves to prevent unwanted filling.

If and when I do it I will mount these pumps together in the same fashion that they are installed in new boats now. No need to put the pump in the center locker since the Jabsco pumps are self-priming. If you have a dealer close by, I'd go check out how the pumps are installed in the new boats to give you some ideas on how it may work in your boat. There are also so good threads here on PN that detail how others have made the change.

We do very little wake boarding anymore and mostly surf. Part of any change I make would include adding sacs on top of the hard tanks in the locker, as well as adding a bow sac. It may end up being one of several winter projects I do at the end of the season.

Are the ballast puppy's the reversable pumps that have the impeller issue ( change to green or yellow because they trip the breaker) if so they
are installed on 2006 models as well.

AuMDLST is right it was 2006. Its not hard to build a rack to mount them on. I am building one for a buddies 2001 SANTE and built one for my boat. My system is basically a cop of how they installed them in an 08 210 with the exception that I use the switches that come with the water puppies. My dealer said it looks better than factory to him.

I mounted mine to the engine/pylon support. I floated the boat last Wednesday to make sure everything worked (did full balast, switches, tower light, star gazer) and on Thursday I blew my right knee completely out with a little motocross. Now I'm out for 2009. Hope 2010 comes soon. Oh well, see the pic below.

Sorry to hear that MNSuper. What did you do? My son wrecked his knee last year on his bike. Came down off a triple kittywampus and landed directly on it. 37 stitches to close the tear. Yes, tear, and a shattered kneecap.

I sit corrected on the year. Also curious if anyone has tried to use the factory buttons on the panel to control the Jabsco pumps. My guess is that it would be easier to use the switches that come with the pumps, but I'd like to avoid adding non-factory switches if it can be avoided.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the factory switches. Essentially they are the same 3 positions switch. You just need to find the factory pump wiring and use it. You might have to upgrade the relay and wiring from the relay to the pumps, but I don't see any reason you couldn't re-use the switches.

I did my 2005 in 2007. Removed the flow-rite (and TH Marine) valves, replaced the fill pumps with ballast puppies, and wired relays to the stock fill pump harness. Works exactly as it should have from the factory. Pulled the valve knobs and cables, it was liberating! The drain pumps work fine, if you have them leave them. Most impeller pump issues are caused by reversing or running them dry, you won't do either if you just replace the fill pumps. The aerators probably empty the tanks faster than the impeller pumps anyway.

                        Here is my wiring sketch.

Mikeski, you said you only replaced the fill pumps. Where did you mount them since the factory location might get the motors wet?

I was riding at Mazeppa (Hurricane Hills). Tore all ligaments, patellar tendon, meniscus, bone fractures and some thing called an impaction. If anyone wants to ride? I still want to see my boat on the water.

Doesn't the '03 only have one switch? Unless you kept the Nautique valves you would need to run a switch for each pump. I would recommend removing the valves, they are the problem in our older ballast designs.
