I'm kind of a believer in the KISS principle unless the benefits are really strong. They ain't in this case. IMO the touch is something asking for problems down the road after a few good bangs coming off wakes. It is kinda cool though.

What backups are there for what it does. If it craps out in the middle of the lake late on Fri afternoon is your weekend shot?

I have owned a 236 and a 230. Both had the 390 HP ZR6. I would not recommend getting the 343 in this boat, especially if you plan to run any extra weight.

Rumor is that the LINC system might be available without the Coastal Edition package in 2010.
I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

I'd stay away from the touch screen if given the choice.

Could not possibly agree more. I would have zero interest in that feature. Remember the digital gauges of the early 2000's and we also see with some frequency guys needing new touchpads now.
My personal preference is keyed ignition, mechanical gauges, breaker switches, and a couple warning lights. Never once had one of these go bad in 15 years and 3 Nautiques.

My question on the screen is how well can you even see it on a really sunny day. I have a DVD Navigation system in my truck and it can be very difficult to see when the sun is shining on it, and it is no cheapy either. Also I like to wear polarized glasses on the boat, and they really screw up all kinds of digital read outs, all you can see are rainbows. And a final note, what happens when your boat gets caught in one of those afternoon rain showers? Fogged gauges eventually clear up, not a digital screen!

Also curious about the rain/moisture question. And what about the screen getting left in the beating sun for a few hours. My perfect pass display gets whacked if I leave it facing the sun for a couple hours, like parked at the dock and such. I do try to put a towel over the dash, but I occasionally forget. Last time it took half an hour to display correctly.

Yep, LCD and sun don't gel very well if exposed long enough. As for the LINC system, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it has been tested for weather problem's, is a weather pack sealed system. As for how well it can be read when hit directly with sun light, someone will have to weigh in on that one. If you gotta have it, find out that answer, other wise, it's covered for 5 years.

                    BTW, get the ZR6 w/409.

                    Just my humble opinion.

I didn't think the linc system was touchscreen. Is it?

i thought i read the 343 and 409 have same torque curve, so you only get the extra 66hp above normal operating rpms i.e. wot which is not where we surf or wakeboard. i dont have the link to the pcm torque info, but that is what i remember somebody else posting.

I don't have the torque info, but did drive identical boats on the same day with the 330 and 375hp. The ZR6 felt more enthousiastic at lower rpm's and did had more topspeed. So my feeling is that the ZR6 is more beefier on the whole range. Not dramattically, but noticeble.

I know somebody with a 230 with the 343 and he was happy with it. We have the 230 with 390 and I cannot imagine to drive without it....

230 with ZR6 offers extremely well balanced performance. I have the 390hp version in mine and it is definately worth it after driving a 230 with 343hp. Whilst the 343hp is adequate, as someone put it earlier, the 390/409 is a livlier more spirited engine which if you are a driver's driver you will enjoy each and every time you go out...

From what I can gather the Touchscreen will be available on non-coastal boats in 2010 with it possibly being std on the Team ed's...
