Hooking up LED's throught the Accesory Buttons - 93 SNOB

Looking at adding some LED's to my 93 SNOB. I want to use my accessory switches to operate them but when I lifted up the console to get at the accessory "guts" I quickly got overwhelmed.

Can anyone offer some advice on how they would accomplish this task? i.e. where to splice into existing wiring or how to hook them up to the accessory lights direct?

I really want to avoid hardwiring to the battery and I know there is a way to avoid that.

    RE: Hooking up LED

My plan was to splice into the existing wiring that is run under the gunnels for the courtesy lights. You could splice into them anywhere in the line. Then, they would only come on when other lights were on.

As for splicing into the wiring for an accessory switch, the location would depend on which switch you were splicing into. Do you have a preference on what else is on when you hit the switch?

I would prefer to have them on with the courtesy lights, that being said I will plan to splice into in-line under the dash (I plan to place the LED's under the dash). If you have any other thoughts let me know.

      Thanks MnDaniel

I did the same thing as MnDaniel on my 94 Sport with the small blue wire taps into the courtesy light wiring. I went all the way around the boat with LED's so I took the bulbs out of the factory lights.

I also took the bulbs out of my courtesy lights and replaced them with the blue 6-bulb LED's from SuperbrightLEDs.com I think I got all four for $12. If you decide to go with blue LED's, just be careful that they aren't too prevalent at night because you could get a ticket for looking like a marine patrol boat, as MikeSKI did. Mine aren't over the top, so I'm not too worried.

Thanks guys that is all helpful info. I'm actually thinking of using red through out the boat, since the gauges are red already might as well finish it out in the same color. Anyone else use just red? I'd love to see some photos of the finished product

I used red and will be pulling them out to do green. Only because my boat has a green stripe and soon to be green underwater LEDs. Other than that I liked the red. They are not as bright as the greens adn blues but they still look good. I dont have any pictures and they are partially removed so no way to take any.

That is the reason I'm sticking with Red; I have red pin striping throughout my boat, I wish they were as bright as the blues and greens but oh well I think red will finish my interior off nicely.
