    stainless steel step pads

I want to put something on the gunwales to keep the family from slipping. I've seen gator grip but I also know that newer models have ss step pads.

What I'm wondering is if they mount in a recessed pocket or just on top of the flat gunwale surface. Looking at photo I think they are made to go in a recessed area, if so how thick are they and would they stand up to wear and tear if mounted on my Excel.

You can mount them on any surface. I am not sure of the EXACT thickness, but its about one eighth inch thick.

If anyone is interested in the aluminum step plates with the teak wood, I have several sets of them still in mint condition. They were never installed on the Nautiques for which they were intended.
