211 Wakesurfing with my 5 Year Old and I

I was so stoked to finally get my five year old out on the wake surf this past weekend. He has done the horseshoe waterski last year (i had to bribe him with a lego), but this was the first time he has ever wanted to do anything behind the boat. We ended up doing 8 or so runs and he kept asking for more and more.

Hopefully we can get him up on the wakeboard soon, but for now I am just happy to have him ridding with me.

    Here is the video:

RE: 211 Wakesurfing with my 5 Year Old and I

Nice going Dad !!! This is alway plan B for me with little kids, however, most end up going alone as long as an adult is in the water to get them started. The adult gets stuck floating waiting for them to come back so it is not really safe or practical on a busy lake.

Try a boom for wakeboarding or kneeboarding. You can coach them right next to the boat. And hold onto them if need be.

Again, way to go getting him out there, and thanks for posting the vid !!

Justin - great video. I have a 4 year old nephew that wants to surf and we are planning for my 15-year old son to get on the board with him. How did you start on the board? Did you use the standard "wakeskate" type start, start off the platform, etc.? Looks like he had lots of fun.

It is very easy to start. I would float on my back, with my heels on the board. My son would sit between my legs with his arms holding my legs and his heels also on the board.

We got up the very first time with no issues.

Thanks Justin - that is what I figured you were doing, but wanted to confirm.

My twin boys are now 13 weeks old, I hope to have them out on the board in my arms before the end of summer...

I pulled Mike Suyderhoud on his jump skis with his 3 week old baby in his arms one summer many years ago. He did a dock start and dock landing, the baby never even got the diaper wet.
