so my buddy gets a 08 210 team from the closest dealer to where we live. he got it with 2 hours on it new with the ex 343. now the majority of water ways around here are salt or brackish and I am livid they did not install closed loop cooling. perhaps they did not ask what kind of water it would be used in or my friend did not mention it, but c'mon. for this region it should have that and also, they sold him a tandem trailer that's all pimped out, but too bad it's going to deteriorate soon b/c like i said, brackish and salt water. i think this dealer should be reprimanded for being so whatever the word for it is. IMO, if you want to sell nautiques that's al you should be allowed to sell. no bass boats or whalers or anything besides nauti's.

RE: mad at dealer
Not sure I understand why you're upset at the dealer. Closed cooling is an option on the Excalibur. Your friend would have had to request that it be installed. Sounds like your friend made some less-than-ideal choices, but I don't see what the dealer did wrong.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

RE: mad at dealer
I agree with Jeff on this one, the dealer didn't do anything wrong. Here in Nor Cal we have some brackish areas of SF Bay and the delta. It doesn't mean the dealers install closed water cooling. Also, you said he drove 2 hrs to the dealer, the dealer may not really deal with brackish water at all there. Also, I have rarely seen a C.C. on a galvanized trailer outside of those we see pics of in parts of FL. I think if your "Friend" is upset he should talk to the dealer, see what kind of deal they can workout to make things right for him. I have found most C.C. dealers are very open and willing to help out even well after the boat has driven off the lot.

RE: mad at dealer
Ummm, why is this, in any way, the dealers fault? Did your friend consider any of this prior to plunking down the dough?
You seem to be taking this awful personally for it not being your boat. Why didn't you offer some advice to him before he bought? You read enough on here that you should be able to at least guide someone on some of the basic features and options.the WakeSlayer

I agree with everyone else - it is certainly not the dealers fault. How is he supposed to know what type of water the boat will be used in (for that matter why should he care) - for all he knows your buddy has a private lake behind his house. If you take some time to look around there are hundreds of boats operated in brackish water without closed loop cooling systems or galvanized trailers (people actually made conscience decisions to do this and the dealers sold them without any regret). If your buddy should be mad at anybody it should be himself and you for not doing any research. For comparison, when gas was four dollars a gallon if you walked into a Chevy dealer and wanted to buy a Suburban, I don't think the dealer is going to say "you realize this thing gets about 12 miles to the gallon and it's going to cost you $40 to go 120 miles", no he's going to sell you the car. Your money, your decision!! Research, research, research.
On the topic of only selling one brand of boat, just how do you expect a dealer to make a living carrying only one brand? We have a huge Malibu dealer nearby, they keep over 20 bu's in stock but they also have 20 pontoon boats, 20 runabouts and 20 bass boats. You can't make money with only one style of boat, the market is too limited.

Mike, Buxton Marine in Dallas sales only Nautiques and has for 20 years now. They seem to do just fine selling one brand of boat.2000 Four Winns 180 Horizon (sold)
2001 Pro Air Nautique (sold)
2009 230 Super Air Team Edition (current boat)

Gride, with a 1000 posts I’m surprised to see this message. 1. Did you go with your friend to help him pick out/up his new Nautique? 2. Was this boat ordered for someone else and canceled, so your friend got a great deal? Although the dealer should suggest options and upgrades, did your friend read the catalog and question the dealer on any information OR did he say, I'll take that leftover 210 at the cheapest price possible, which at that point the dealer thought "man this one is just here to get a steel and all he is buying on is price, NOT service". OK a dealer should never think that.
I might not get to mad at the hometown dealer. IMPO

Should have requested i-beam, galvy, or aluminum trailer. If you even unload that one in the water around here, it'll go within 3-4 years from the inside out and you will never know it by looking at it. He'll go to pull out of the ramp one day and one of the main arms will split on an otherwise "new" looking trailer. Might as well make sure it has galvy or ceramic coated brake components too.
The closed cooling isn't a huge issue. Just make sure it is flushed after each outing ASAP. He's gonna go through waterpumps and risers quick though. I pull my risers every winter and clean the rust out as well as I can and hit them with some Wonder if I run in salt more than a few times.
The real question is, why did your friend order a boat with a channel trailer and no closed cooling if he is gonna run in salt?
