Silver Nautique Gel Coat

Recently bought a Silver Nautique, boat is solid, very good condition, however the black hull has sort of turned gray within the last 20 years. What would be the best technique/products to getting the gel coat back to black? Ive heard the metal flake shouldnt be touched by a buffing compound/buffer, is that true? Under the waterline looks great its just above that is oxidized and faded.

Just looking for suggestions on getting my "black/gray" boat back to black.

Clay - Try wetsanding w/ 1500 grit a small area, suggest the transom 1st. Follow with buffing & waxing. What do you have to lose? It is already faded!
