    07 220 / Perfect Pass is flakey

I have a 220 TE with 375hp engine and perfect pass stargazer. I'm having trouble with the perfect pass and wondering if anyone else has the same problems or if maybe I have a defective unit.

Every once in a while, for no apparent reason, the perfect pass will surge to ~4500rpm when towing a wakeboarder. It happens about once per day, and yesterday on perfectly calm water? It is pretty hard on the rider...

Also, it just doesn't engage when pulling someone up about 5% of the time. I pull my kid at 22mph and it will just not beep and then I have to hand drive the pass, or slow back down to 15mph and speed up to 22 to get it to engage.

Happy with the boat, the speed control has been terrible on it since I purchased it. I upgraded to the GPS module this year which has helped quite a bit, but now have the random surging problem.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Would it be worth just switching to Zero Off?

On my 236 team, i had similar problems and it turned out to be faulty firmware. It turns out CC put the exclaibur code on PP, when I have a ZR 6. After the new firmware all is well. I hope it is an easy fix for you. Good Luck!

Thanks for the idea - I wonder if that happened to me too. Do you know how to check the firmware?

I have an 07 with the EX330 and havent had any problems. Although, at first i didnt know that after it engaged I had to push the throttle down another inch or so or else it wouldnt hold speed well. After my dealer told me that I had no issues.

Yeah, adding the throttle was one of the first things perfect pass told me too, but this is a different issue. I still can't figure out what is better about throttle by wire?

Not sure about the StarGazer, but the PP in our 07 220 was a bit flakey as well. It would engage just fine (didn't have to do the extra throttle thing) but would surge a lot on hard turns, especially to starboard. I changed the KW parameter to 130 (factory setting was 80) and that made a huge difference, almost no surge after making that change. There are also parameters you can adjust for how aggressively the PP takes over and relinquishes control. The manual (available on the PP website) has instructions for setting adjustable parameters.

troyanselmo, i believe all 07s are the same so i think you will find if you push the throttle down about an inch beyond where it engages it will hold speed better. its hard to tell when i am in the boat, but when i am riding i can tell the driver has not pushed it down further.
