Sounds like there is interest in these carpets among SV211 owners. I have requested samples of the 2 different types of carpets that Corinthian mentioned in the above, will pass along my thoughts about them and the color compairson to the CC orginal colors. My carpet is gray, I would think that either shade of gray would look better than my current 2004 carpet since I would be changing out all 6 at the same time.
I would be in for a group buy as well. Carpets in my '08 211 are already losing snaps and rubber backing, not even 2 seasons old yet. And Corinthian seems to have better color choices too.
Wish the 211 had the option of crest carpet like the Super Airs do.
I deal with carpet claims all day long every day. I would guess the claim would go something like this. No warranty for crushed carpet, no warranty if you pull your snaps through (though they might fix them because they would be easy to fix by the dealer) and the only claim would be if your carpet came out of the backing. Even if the backing dried out as long as the face fiber did not fall out I don't think you would have a claim. The way the carpet is made I don't think it would delamiante. You might get sun problems if the yarn was not created correctly but that would be very uncommon.
I think the backings of out carpets are stupid. The face fiber will not absorb water. The backing is like a stung. It may not delaminate like a normal carpet but the backing holds enough water to allow mold to grow. That leads to stink.
Does the backing from the Corinthian carpet hold water?
This is a great site. I'm also in contact with my local dealer about replacement and also feel it's unlikely. I spoke with Corinthian and like the dude posting on here. I haven't decided who had the best deal for GOOD carpet yet, but when I do, I'm in on a group buy.
RLS first asked this question, but I am also interested in the answer:
Does the backing from the Corinthian carpet hold water?
My biggest frustration with my existing snap out carpet is that the backing sucks up water, then begins to stink. It takes a long time for the water to drip/dry from the backing.
The vinyl ribbed backing on Corinthian carpet will in NO way whatsoever hold water. It's impossible. Will the carpet itself hold water? Of course, any carpet will hold water in the fibers, especially when they all sit so tightly next to each other. Other backings that competitors use, particularly the black 'honey-comb' pattern rubber type will most definitely hold water and almost act as a sponge. The vinyl backing that Corinthian uses has no properties that would allow it to absorb water--It's physically impossible. Hopefully this helps.
I received the samples i ordered a few days ago. There is a multi color carpet that looks great. I deal with carpet all day every day. The yarn system our carpets are made from are a polypropylene. It is different than nylon carpet that most residential carpet is made with. Polypropylene does not absorb water like nylon carpets. The face drys very quickly because it does not enter the yarn. Who ever selected the rubber back carpet did not understand marine application. I was impressed with the samples I received. I am taking the samples with me this week end to see how they deal with soil and water. I like the backing. It is not as thick as the OEM carpet backing. Should be a little easier to work with. If there is a group buy I would be in if everything comes out good this week end.
Keep me posted on the outcome RLS, and I'll definitely help facilitate a group buy for you guys. By the way, anyone else interested in some free carpet samples, feel free to PM me and I'll get you set up with some color swatches.
Let me know how you guys want to orchestrate the group buy. You can each PM me individually and I'll just honor a 'group buy rate', that way everyone can have their own seperate shipping location or do one big buy all together. Whichever works best, let me know.
