I need to drive 2 1/2 hours south or north to test two different boats on Saturday. I can only do one.
The first is a one owner '05 226, TE with 170 hours. No upgraded stereo, no bimini, no snap or storage covers. $37,500. I like the idea of this boat but I'm told the wake for surfing and wakeboarding isn't anywhere close to '07 and higher 210, and forget ever skiing behind it. (do later models have a different hull and hydro gate and does it make a difference?)
The second is an '08 210 Standard Edition. This doesn't have keyless start, digital dash, depth, any of that stuff (except it does have Zero Off). Has tower, two spinners, ballast. It was a ski school boat in Sacramento that is now at a dealer. Dealer has replaced all the vinyl, carpet is basically new (it was taken out during the ski school months), are fixing a couple of gel coat issues. Supposedly well maintained with oil change every 30 hours, tranny service at 75, etc. But this boat has 700 hours! No bimini, storage covers, blingy stereo (just basic clarion head unit), but does have a heater which is important to my wife. Dealer asking $39,900 and including a $1500 credit (to upgrade the stereo, buy covers, whatever). This seems high for a standard edition with 700 hours, but it's the closest 210 for me to try.
I'm concerned about resale on the 210 with the hours and the lack of a blingy dash ( a couple of dealers have told me that everyone wants the team edition, they'll order one standard edition, just to have it, and even though it's $7000 less, they'll still have a hard time selling it.
On the 226 I'm concerned that I'm settling for a boat that doesn't have the wake or flexibility I might want (even though I don't plan to ski, but who knows, in a couple of years I might wish I had the option for an open water pull)
On either boat, I'd like to go to test them with the potential of negotiating a deal that would make me feel good about buying it and bringing it home.
Am I wasting my time on both of them? Should I just keep looking or at least take advantage of an opportunity to board and surf behind at least one of them? If so, which one should i pursue? I have a family of 6, so that also makes the 226 intriguing.
Sorry for the long post, but would appreciate other's insights with more Nautique experience than me.
