You missed my point. The reason otehr mfgs. did not use reverse rotation is economics. You automatically make your power plant cheaper if you use LH rotation. And thanks for making my point vis a vis gear reduction.

Be turning hard left as you approach the dock. leave enough room for the boat not to hit the dock. This gives the boat a counterclockwise rotation, viewed from above the boat. As you get to the dock, before you make contact, shift into reverse. This stops both the forward motion of the boat, and the counterclockwise rotation, viewed from above.
With practice, you can make the boat stop motionless, parallel to the dock, a few inches from the dock.
This is exactly what I was trying to say - Daniel said it better - this is how I do it and it works everytime.

I tend to like to believe that Correct Craft of old had a more purposeful reason for doing it the way they did. I could be entirely wrong here, but .... Safety, Speed, and Style. I am going to do some homework to try and back this up. There is another discussion about this going on on CCFan.

I like to think it was done Correctly in the first place.

            Docking

I'm obviously a fan of CC, I own one. But I think there may have been a good reason for the RH rotation at one time (when the boats were more narrow and tended to list to starboard). But I think it's a bad idea now, It makes docking on the drivers side more difficult and picking up a skiier on the starboard side also. Yes you are backing toward the skiier, but I don't think backing up to pick up a skiier has been a big safety issue. You also can't buy a used prop from anyone except another CC owner. I think they should make the change back to LH rotation.

              RE: Docking

A guy died here a few years ago after his buddy backed over him with a LH boat.

Causeway, I have to completely disagree with the above statement. It is not the experienced drivers here whose ability I question. We can all figure out our own boats. It is the idiots that we are all occasionally subjected to, like it or not.

Causeway. Obviously, I don't know you. You may be a very good, and very experienced driver, I couldn't say. But, on the surface what I see is that you are saying you can't handle your boat well enough to be able to approach a dock from the starboard side unless the boat pulls starboard. Yet, you would like to be able to back right up to a fallen skier. Regardless which way the propellor turns, that would have me concerned if I were the skier. That would be a bad idea to me.

Don't get me wrong, lot's of people would prefer the boats pulled starboard. Just sayin'. BKH
