    Piggyback Ballast

I have a 08 210 Team Edition and I just got some Launch Pad 350 sacs to piggy back off of the stock tanks.

I know to run the overflow into the bag and then another line to the overflow vent on the side of the boat from the bag.

My question is what about putting PVC pipe in the bags? I have read about doing it but do not really understand what it will do. Does it need to be the lenght of the whole bag if I do need to put it in?

My factory ballast puppies cut off I guess either on a timer or when the tank guages read full.

    Thanks!

Do a search, there is a lot of information about this. The PVC stops the bag from collapsing which blocks the hard tank's vent when empting...Without some sort of anti-airlock measure installed, you could damage your hard tanks.

Remember that you will also need a valve or trap installed between the bag and the side of your boat to stop it from siphoning. I’m not the expert, but have done some research for my planned install.

      RE: Piggyback Ballast

I have an 08 210 and added extra ballast (fatsac v-drive sacs in the rear). I installed pvc pipes (2 per bag, cross drilled every 4 inches to provide more ways to maintain an air passage) and wouldn't bother in the future as the bags still sometimes collapse completely as I drain. I haven't had any indication that the hard tank is collapsing because of it, but the hard tank stops draining at that point...so I end up with an empty bag and a full (or nearly) full hard tank that won't drain.

When this happens, I've found if I unscrew the rear vent on the sacks, that always lets air into the bag (and the hard tank) and fixes the problem. Since I used the front fitting on the sack for the vent, I think the best fix is to forget the pvc and simply run an additional vent line from the rear fitting to the front fitting. I haven't done it yet...it's on my list.

Although i have somehow bent a float rod in my hard tank, i think the system works just fine without the pvc addtion in my 08 210 (using Fly High bags).

I have an 06 210 and have wanted to piggyback my sacs but have worried that the constant filling and draining might negatively affect the electronic switches and breakers in the port side locker because of the constant rubbing as the sac fills/drains unattended. Has anyone had this problem?

Also why can't FlyHigh (or someone) make a semi-rigid sack that addresses this problem?
