We regularly use my 99' sport with the tsc1 hull for the slalom course. I'm sure the 216 on the tsc 2 hull is even a little better.

Only way to answer that is to try one. Opinions vary widely on the wake of the 216. I think I'd sacrifice a little ski wake if necessary to get the added room, but that's my opinion. Hopefully you wouldn't need to sacrifice, though.

No way. I've skied both. The 97+ TSC1 hull is one of the best ever for slalom. The 216 isn't close.

Gotta agree with Shane. No comparison in terms of slalom skiing.

so far I'm really enjoying the smiles and complimets on the wake.... . thanks for the responses. if the wakes are even close the added space of the open bow is worth it (no tournaments in my future). trying one will be fun!

Have you considered the open bow 200?

I have a 1997 Ski Nautique, and am a recreational slalom skier. I have done six, at 30, 15 off. I also barefoot a little, wakeboard, and do dockstarts with girls sitting on my shoulders, for pyramids, and other silly fun stuff involved with show skiing.
I have slalom skied behind a Sport Nautique, A 206, without a tower, and a 1998 Ski Nautique with a tower, and bimini top, and a 1997 SNOB.
I like my boat the best. With the back seat removed, better, 1/2 tank of gas, or less even more so.
Having said that, the slalom wake behind any of the above boats is great.
I have not skied behind a 216. I assume it still has a good slalom wake. I feel you could get the 216 (not the 216V) and you could slalom behind it, and even if you later decided to start running the course, the 216 would serve you well as a training boat, when you are not able to ski behind a true hard core slalom boat.

I've skied behind a 216 at 36 mph and there is a significant bump at 22 off but after that, through 35 I couldn't tell a difference. At 32 and 34 mph the bump at 22 was ridiculous and most of the kids would not ski 22. The added room in the boat would be nice for a larger lake but as a hard core slalom skier the 196 is the only option.

oldslalomskier; I have considered it. (Like I have considered dating Heidi Klum) There is one at our local dealer. It was under a tarp and he wasn't around so I didn't look in. Not in the budget

watrskii3156; Thanks for the detailed info the 216 I think it would be more than enough boat for me.... really want a better than average Ski wake with the wakeboarding and family fun a bigger boat would provide.

Danielc; I forgot about the new 216v. no v-drive a friend said the VTX he skis behind is massive compared to the my SN..... sticking with a D.D.

I own 2008 216 TE, my last boat was 1990 MC PS 190, it had an awesome wake like MC or not. I was not disappointed with the wake on this boat. I free ski 32 MPH 15 off, and ski the course ocassionally at the same speed and length.

We just got back from 3wks vacation and we skied every morning with 4 adults in the boat and it was fine. Its not as small as my PS 190 but heck the boat is way bigger. If all you do is ski then buy the new 200 (which i just looked at the other day, very nice) otherwise this is the boat to buy. i had 9 people in the boat, we wakeboarded, tubed, kneeboarded and of course we skied. THis boat is incredible period. I am so blown away with the Nautique 216 and its versatility.

Remember the 216, has a tower ballast tanks, an open bow, a ski locker need i say more? Nautique has done one heck of a job on these boats.

Interesting comments about the 216. I have a friend that is a design engineer at the "M" boat company, and he never passes on a pull behind my boat. Just to qualify, he skied my 99' ski and said it may be the best he has ever skied, but for a Family slalom boat, he says my sport is as good or better than anything in their line up.

I have not skied a 216 and their additional weight may affect the wake, we always try to go out with 1/2 tank and no back seat and almost nothing in the trunk when we hit the course. On the other hand, one of my best friends has a RLXI and has his PB in the course behind my sport, I guess I'm just saying ski it with an open mind, and skip 22 off. (if you can ski 15' off you can ski 22' off 90% of the time.) You might be surprised, or if you have the $$ buy a new 200 open bow, and give me a call, I'd love to get a pull behind one of those.

What it is really going to get down to is what is your ability as a skier, how fast you ski, and what line length. While the 216 might be ok at 36mph shortline, it's a battleship at 32 and 34mph in my opinion. There is no way I would train behind it as a shortline 34mph skier. Could I? Yes. Would I? Absolutely not. The wake is taller and wider than a 196 or even a 206 by a considerable margin at that speed. No offense to the 216 owners. The only way you'll know for sure is to find one and ski behind it.
