    Great Success!!

Had my New to me 90 sport out for the first time two weekends ago and had the impeller tear up on me right out of the gate. Was afraid I may have done some serious damage because it got really hot (close to 220). After changing the Impeller and putting in a new thermostat I got to try my luck again. It wasn't an uneventful process because I ended up draining the battery enough from listening to the radio during the repair. But i was able to get a jump and she rolled over. Held temp and ran just fine. Can't wait to get back on the water and get to have some fun.

Thanks for all the help from all of you, had it not been for the advice on here and my dad's knowledge lord knows I would have screwed something up.

You are probably 100% okay. But for the next few outings, you need to monitor your oil level and make sure you are not burning oil.

Often when an engine is overheated, ~260 F, the rings fail and the engine consumes oil either through the rings or high crankcase pressure and the oil blows into the carb.

Get an extra impeller to keep in the boat and keep a wrench to change it out with it. Then, even if it happens again, you won't lose a day on the water.

220 is nothing. If it got to 250 for an extended period of time, I'd worry. But half the vehicles out there now run at 210-220 for emissions purposes.

I agree with Shane. 220 is no big deal. Good advice above.

Late clarification here. I agree with all 220 is not hot.

kevin...you still need to be on the lookout as I mentioned. The problem is that when there is a failure like that, the gauge may not read correctly if it is not being bathed in circulated hot water. Typically the reading will be low.

An example is on the Nascar circuit. Driver radios that his engine temp is dropping. That is a bad thing because he just lost his water and his sender can't detect the temperature anymore. Meanwhile the engine is about to melt.

I'm not trying to scare you. You are probably okay. Just be sure to watch that oil level for a while.
