I am in the market for a nautique. I found an 07 SAN 220 with the 5.7 L. on another forum. I was curious what everybody's thoughts on the power of this engine. Is it sufficient or should I look for a boat with an upgraded motor? Thanks for your input.

RE: 2007 SAN 220 powerplant
My opinion was more motor based, and from the first thread. Maybe with 6 people in your immediate family the 220 or 230 would be better suited.
There is a pretty big leap pricewise, though.
I am a pretty big python advocate, and think if one is available, and you are in the market, that is the boat to get. Shortsighted, perhaps, but.....

RE: 2007 SAN 220 powerplant
I beleive the 5.7L motor will pull anything you could ask for. Unless you are pulling a tower of 16 skiers or 6 bare footers you won't have a problem. Once you find out what you do the most if the motor doesn't seem to cut it all you have to do is reprop it. Alot less moneyNautiqueless in San Diego

I too am a Python advocate 8-) it's hard going back to a small block engine!
Having said that, if you're new to inboards, and will be just starting to wakeboard and surf, a 330hp engine should be good for a few years, until your kids want to sink the boat with 3000 pounds of ballast! It's a tradeoff on a family boat, but if you fill it up with people and load the stock ballast up, it may take a little while to get on plane.
If you can demo the boat, try to bring your "crew" and see what it's like getting up on plane...2008 230 TE-ZR6
