I bought my 01 210 about two months ago from a dealer in Florida. They told me that I would get my new tag and reg in a few weeks. They gave me a temp tag to use. Well I called them after a month and told them I needed my tag and reg, because the local law was giving me a hard time having a out of state reg on my boat and the temp tag was out. So I called them and they told me they were still trying to get the tag, they emailed me my reg so I had a copy. But two months, I dont think it should take that long to get a trailer tag. Also they told me the boat had 280 hours on it and it was wrote on the title and I was playing with perfect pass and I found out it has 450-500hours. I asked them and they told me " Oh yeah I would go by the hours on the PP" I told them I thought that was kind of messed up and there response was "I dont know what to tell you." Other than these two problems everything else went great with the deal, they were very nice. I am not trying to knock them but does 2 months on a tag seem right to anyone else? And the hours being sold to me being different than what they said. I could see were it was a used boat they might have missed it, but I would think they would know how to check them.

RE: Problems with dealer
sad to say, but I believe I remember it being a couple of months for my tag to come. Also, is there a such thing as a used perfect pass? Maybe it was off an older boat and installed? Do you have an hour gauge on the dash? Might be a stupid question but the basics are always worth asking.

Not sure if your motor has it, but you can check the ECM for true hours on most boats. If they sold you a high hour boat for low hours, that's fraud.

I would demand they refund you at least a few thousand back or return the boat. Given a well taken care of engine will run for 2000 hrs before needing a rebuild, instead of being 14% through the engine's usable life your now at 25% of the way. If this was a car it's like they told you it had 30,000 miles and in reality it has 50,000 miles.
Accidental or not, the dealer needs to make you whole on this one...

An '01 Nautique is probably going to have a Ford engine. That being the case, there is no way to get the hours from the ECM on the engine. I would trust the PerfectPass at this point. It is MUCH more likely that the digital gauges were replaced at some point than that a used PP was installed AND NOT RESET.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. I have heard several stories recently about the hour meter resetting to zero when zero off is installed. If I were to buy another boat I would have it checked for actual hours via the ECM and probably require the seller sign an hours statement.

280 vs 450 hours. Is that really a deterant to buying the boat? It wouldnt be for me. Those guages are known for going bad. My first question with all 2000-2002 boats was "are those the original guages?" Most didnt know what i was talking about, some said no. Asking about hours, no one ever could confirm because most were multiple owner boats. I say the dealer is not at fault as much as you guys are pushing here but I am playing devils advocate too.

At least with a GM engine you can now get true engine hours. There's nothing wrong with 450 hrs - unless you are paying for 280.

I would be really upset if a dealer told me it had 280 hrs and it actually has 450. If a car dealer sold you a car and told you it had 25000 miles and it actually had 50000 miles anyone would be upset, this is no different. The dealer IS at fault here and misrepresented the boat, used or not they should know some of the history of the boat they a selling. If they don't know something as basic as the actual hrs on the boat then what do they know about this thing. Who wrote on the title 280 hrs? Was it the dealer or prev owner. They may have been nice and the boat may be good but they also have a responsibility to the customer after the sale.

The dealer told me the hours and had it on the title. I am happy with the boat though, had a few small problems but it is a boat. The hours being off was wrong, but it isn't enough for me to not want the boat. I was just getting aggravated about the tag and how they are responding. Figured I would ask and get other peoples feelings on the situation.

that was my old boat. being in good ol' alabama where we dont title boats, i know jeff was having a hard time getting the paperwork done. first we waited on the title from my bank and when it didnt come he called them and they let him know that Al. doesnt title boats. then he had to have me get a letter notorized that i sold him the boat w/ a copy of my registration so he could get a new title for it.
as far as the hours, i believe that when we spoke i told you there was a discrepancy b/t the hour gauge and the PP. im not sure which is right b/c im the 2nd owner. but, when i sold the boat there was an 80 hour difference b/t the 2 guages. it sounds like now there is more that 80 hours b/t the 2, so i dont which one is ticking hours fast (or slow). when jeff got that boat it had roughly 320ish hours on the gauge and the PP was at 400ish. you came and looked at it 2 weeks later.
all in all, im sorry your having problems w/ the tag, but i jsut felt the need to back up the dealer here. jeff has been an awesome dealer on my new 210TE purchase. i bought my boat out of state with 1 hour on it and naturally it had some kinks in it. jeff has gone over and beyond to fix all my problems from a state away and kep me happy.
