So I am down in Charleston, SC for a wedding and out of the corner of my eye comes a Mastercraft 220 CSX. After the couple says "I Do" etc, I drag my wife over to see it docked. Thinking outside the box, its actually not a bad layout. YES it does look like like your coastal fishing boat, but MC made good use of the motor cover as a seat, storage, etc. So...... do you think it would be a good boat for CC to make.

RE: Should Correct Craft Make a MC 220 CSX clone?
I think they already did....and no they shouldn't again.

Opinion here.
They should make no compromise competition ski boats again, not wide beam wakeboard barges with every thing from built in trash bins to whatever.
Please make the absolute best closed bow tournament boat you can.
Not a compromised hull that you can throw an open bow deck on.
I honestly believe Correct Craft can take what they learned developing the Ski Nautique 200, make a closed bow specific hull, make it lighter, maybe shorter, maybe narrower if you do not put the side storage in it, and produce an even better ski wake than the 200 has.

thats a good idea. w/ wakeboarding and wakeboard type boats comprising a good 80% of the watersports market, those profits are useless anyways. i say give up market share and the profit that comes along with it to really focus on the smallest niche of the watersports industry... that way you can use your reduced profits to really grow buoy hooking and bring revolutionary boats to the water...

I never understand why slalom purists get so upset when their favorite boat company produce other more profitable boats. Especially when many of them are hanging on to 8-10 year old boats. Not that there is anything wrong with a 10 yo ski boat. But how do they expect cc or any mfg to keep the doors open?
The MC CSX is very unconventional but fits a market. And throws the 2nd best wb wake in their lineup.
As far as whether CC should produce one similar I'd say no for now. Too bad of a market to spend all the R&D money. The boating market will never be what it was 4-5 years ago.

With the amount of people rebuilding 2001's and putting towers on them maybe it is time to dust off the old molds, build them with composite materials, add a tower & tanks option and come out with an affordfable re issue of a very popular hull design.

Wakeboarders are like golfers. You can sell them anything. Nothing wrong, with that, wakeboard boats pretty much saved all the tow boat manufactures from going bankrupt.
If you enjoy wakeboarding, that is great, go do it, have fun. I even put a pole on my Ski Nautique, and go wakeboarding, and also teach many people to wakeboard.
Having said that, I bought a 1997 Ski Nautique because it was not only the best skiing specific boat available, it was the best tournament ski boat that Correct Craft could produce. The best company made the best boat they could, for this specific job, three event skiing.
This concept is similar to when the Super Air was one specific model of boat, and it too was the best wakeboard boat available. Now, all "super air" stands for is something v-drive, with a tower, and ballast tanks.
It is like if Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Porsche, stopped producing two door cars, in favor of making 4 door models, maybe with a hatchback, because they are more family friendly, to increase sales. Don't forget the cupholders.
Up until now, Correct Craft designed a closed bow tournament boat as a closed bow tournament boat only. Not a hull bottom that you could just put an closed bow deck on. Having to accommodate an open bow compromises other design characteristics that make is possible to have a better slalom wake than if you did not have to make provision for an open bow. Consider this, a closed bow is a stronger design. Stronger design means less materials have to be used to get the required amount of strength. Less material, less weight. Less weight, less displacement, better wake. An open bow also forces you to adjust the drivers position, and that forces you to adjust the engine position.
I fully believe the Ski Nautique 200 will have a better wake than the 2009 Ski Nautique 196. But is it the best slalom boat that Correct Craft could make?

I think the CSX 220 is a great idea strictly as a towboat design. It puts the driver in the middle of the boat and allows for much better visibility. Being a center console it allows for much easier movement around the boat. Then on top of that you have a direct drive engine which I think most would agree is superior performance wise to having a v-drive. Also the boat throws a fantastic wake and when was the last time people said that about a direct drive?
That being said, should CC produce one? Probably not it doesn't make sense right now with the economy. I really like the idea and it has it's benefits but people don't embrace change easily and it won't in the near future out sell a conventially layed out boat. So why spend the money creating something that's destined to be so-so.
