Surfing with LED's in the dark.

Has anyone with transom LED's tried surfing at night? Are they powerful enough to light up the wake?

It looks like the lights would be out of the water, but covered by the swim deck. It would be cool if you could get just the wake to light up without being blinded (like tower lights do).

I've surfed several times at night with LEDs only and no tower lights. It probably depends on the color of the LEDs but the green ones on the SV-211 I ride behind lit the wake up very well. I had no issues seeing the wake or the platform.

I understand that it is dangerous and against the law, but it is one of my favorite times to ride. Surfing with a full moon makes it even better.

It probably depends on where you are, but in MN the laws state being towed (with a rope) You would piss off a sheriff by using that logic, but technically, you would be correct while surfing. You just need to learn to paddle in or step off the deck....

In NC, I don't believe they make the distinction between being towed or not. In fact, I recall the laws including the term "surfing" when they discuss riding before and after sunset. Some neighbors have told us that the wildlife officers have been asking around regarding us surfing at night. I guess that is their way of warning us :???:

Surfing by moonlight is the way to go. There are a couple of places were I can get away with riding at night, mainly because they aren't patrolled after dark. I sometimes think that a fine would be worth it.

We try to be as safe as possible by using spotlights and glow sticks. It would be nice if someone would make a glow in the dark board or at least a glow in the dark traction pad.

For those who have LED's, can you change colors easily, or do you have to replace the whole light assembly?

Oznium makes a multi-color LED called the "Million Color", but I don't think you can control the color yet. The current controller they use is automatic, but their site says they are coming out with a controller that gives you more flexibility on the color.

I have never surfed at night, but I do know that green would probably work best. The human eye can see green better than other colors because it is in the middle of the light spectrum. This is why night vision goggles displayed in green.

If any of you get a chance, some pictures of your wake (surfing speeds) at night would be awsome.

if you ski on dale hollow or cumberland then you don't have to worry about the lake patrol as there is no speed limit at night on either of those lakes and several others within the state of TN and KY

Good idea, but I'm not sure it's worth all "starbright" comments. I might try some reflective striping.
