Fat sacs and Sheriffs

I have a 96' ski Naughty with Samson tower and 700 lb sac that I routinely rest on the rear seat. When I take a seat and drive I figure I am right at the coast gaurd limit of 6 persons or 1110 lbs when you include the weight of the tower, gear, boards,anchor etc. Of course I usually have 1,2 or3 persons in the boat besides the wakeboarder I'm towing. So usually I am totaling about 1800lbs and that is with being conservative with only 1 fat sac. What gives? If i was pulled over by the Sheriffs that make thier prescence felt on the water ways I frequent, wouldn't they start adding up the weight along with the other dozen safety requirements? I am a first time commenter but I have probably read a thousand entries in these forums to more educate myself, and I have yet to read any discussion on this. Am I ignorant on this matter or is this a subject no one wants to mention in fear that it will be targeted by the LAW?.

Most sheriffs are interested in if you have a cga vest for each person aboard, not the wieght limit of your boat. also fat sacs are neutrally boyant so they cant "sink" your boat. they could help capsize it but they wont pull it to the bottom like lead or cement would.

jonfo is right, they don't really bother with the weight/people limit. They make sure there is a fire extinguisher and enough USCGA jackets. I've been stopped a few times with 10 people and a cooler or two in our 88 nautique, (6 person limit). They never commented on the number of people.

well where i live i have this one a hole who will arrest and right tickets all the to the top yes im talking about you starling.. this guy will right you a ticket for anything and everything oh and safety checks are his favorite ..we are just out trying to ride and he will stop us to see whats going on yeah right.. its gets to where i go back to my old waterway where they know me and wave and drive by.. i know my laws so leave me alone so we can get a full day of riding without interuption.. ive even heard of him giving people traffic tickets.. so if your live or ever in fl ridin or drivin look out for florida game officer starling..........................

Most Sheriffs are just concerned if you have enough lifejackets and a fire extinguisher. We are way over the limit on our Air and they have never asked anything about how much weight or anything. I guess it just depends on the Sheriff, but I never had one ask about weight or check it.

Our sheriffs and town guys are very great to get along with.The DNR wardens will hassle the wakeboard guys if it looks like they are having too much fun.I haven't heard of them giving overweight tickets but they definitely like to stop the hardcore boarders and hassle them. I wish they would hassle the 24' I/O's weaving all over the lake pulling two tubers through my glass......
