Arab oil embargo, Green movement, Recession, ... hang around the promo/tournament scene long enough (hence my moniker "old" slalomskier ) and you will see ups and downs in boat sales and tournament participation. But here we still are. So rest assured, there will always be promo boats and slalom skiers and tournaments.
I've been around 3-event skiing since 1977 and was on CC's promo team for 16 years. I have no doubt that there will be tournaments and skiers but as far as promo boats, I think those days are numbered. MC and CC are very anxious about USAWS allowing the use of older boats to pull tournaments. One is MN last week used a 2005 MC w/ PP. It was approved by the Regional EVP. I received the go-ahead to use my 2007 in my tournaments in 2010. Therefore, the need to purchase a current year boat ($45k+) is gone w/ regard to Class "C" events.

Maybe there should not be so much mark-up on promo boats. I mean, isn't the reason for a promo boat basically to get the name and products out in front of potential buyers? If the factory offered a better deal(especially in these times) people might be more willing to upgrade. Doesn't sound like there are a ton of promo boats out there,so I wouldn't think it would hurt resale for a potential consumer. I don't ski, but if I did and was at an event, the first thing that would cross my mind when seeing an older boat towing the event is that the new ones must not be any good. That assumption would most likely be way off base, but non-the-less ,right or wrong, that is what would cross my mind. I certainly would not expect to see a pre 2007 SAN towing a wake tournament, except maybe at a very grassroots level.I would especially feel this way if I was a customer looking to cross over from another brand.
Shane - not sure who the 3 promos Steve was referring to. He was probably including Curtis' (Arora's) boat - didn't pull any tournaments but mine. Alvin won't be back either. I'm unaware of any promos in Louisiana or the DFW area. So, probably one promo 200 in the SCR next year - WOW!
BTW, the RPM's on the 200 at 34mph are 3760. 36mph is 4000!! Spoke to someone in the know and he said that the hull is creating an air pocket by the prop which is causing the high RPM's. Not good. As I said before, I'm glad I'm keeping my 07 SN.
And then listen to people complain that your boat is shot at 200 hours......
Seriously, though, if you are interested, PM me and I'll give you a contact to discuss it. It really depends if there are already promo people covering your area.

Oh no! My 206 just passed 200. The guy I bought it from won't even keep one past 100. What am I to do? I hope it lasts at least through tomorrow's outing. I've got important guests coming.
That is sad. My opinion is a promo boat is a great way to go. Even better if you can work with the promo to pick your colors when it is ordered. I'd do it in a minute.

My 07 JUST turned 35 hrs. Would that be considered (Mike Tyson voice here)............LUDICROUS?! Yellow_Flash_Colorz:
I have a hard time reconciling the idea of promoting a boat without using it. In my mind, a promo boat should have MORE hours on it b/c you're trying to get as many people behind it as possible (especially non-CC owners) so they can fall in love with it.
