The 196 only took a hit the last couple of years with the economy. Timing is everything and its just bad timing for me. Unable to sell the 08 due to economy and then take a bath on the price in 09. Add the upgrade charge and thats where the issue is for most guys I talk to. To be a promo guy you need to be dedicated to the sport and have some cash to invest into it also.

It's not like the promo program is new. it's been successfully working for years. Those promo boats have never effected dealer sales negatively. There will always be people who want a boat without waiting til the following August. The recent downturn in prices is caused by the economy, pure and simple.Shane Hill

Nice boat Dave. Can't wait to start hearing peeps' impressions. Some folks at our lake might, I say might, be in the market next year. I'm trying to decide if I should keep my 05 or move up. Lots of money and I'm not sure it'll be an upgrade.

You are right it is not new, but when a promo guy buys a boat he buys it close to dealer cost if not at dealer cost. Therefore when he is in a pinch or is just wanting to move his boat he will advertise is on sites like this and sell it for what he paid for it. Wait a minute so he would sell it for dealer cost, how does that not effect the new boat price for a 2009 model a dealer has in stock? What needs to happen is Nautique should buy back all of the 2010 promo boats back and have a list for dealers to sell off. It would be good for everyone.
Kind of like the post below

I think CC has done the "repurchase thing in the past--jdarwin, MS, or Clemsondave would know for sure. Anyway, if I were a dealer I would not want to be stuck with a closed bow ski boat. When the promo program works, the boats usually get exposed in the niche market they belong and get sold in that market. Theoretically, everyone wins. Skier gets nice boat, promo guy gets to buy new boat and the dealer isn't stuck trying to sell a closed bow boat at a marked up retail price. Aside from the economy, the problem I see is that there are alot of nice, perfectly good closed bow ski boats out there--like mine. It runs great, skis great and drives great. It'll be hard for me to pull the trigger on a newer version that does the same thing. But we'll see...

IMHO, the promo program has NO effect on retail sales. Here's why. 80%+ ski boat buyers are rec skiers. Of that 80+ %, maybe 50 have a WaterSki mag subscription, but's that's about it. The vast majority don't go to tournys, don't know about sites like PN, and never heard of a promo program.
The promo guys get their boat's at or near cost, if that's the only perk they get, besides the actual fun of getting a new boat each year, more power to 'em. They still have to tow it from tourny to tourny, keep up on the maintenance, insurance, etc etc. That's a lot of jack out of pocket in my eyes.
It's going to be a loooong time before this country gets back to the mentality that business's deserve to make a fair profit. I don't boycott stores because the employees get a discount as a benefit. So promo guys getting a boat at cost........good for them. Good for CC.

I think the issue with a buy back program for promo boats is two fold.
The first issue is upkeep, if the driver is not financially tied to the boat they will have less concerns with keeping the boat boat in excellent condition. Promo driving is important for all ski boat companies, but poor promo drivers would do more harm than good. Owning the boat is one way to keep top notch drivers in the program and freeloaders out.
Secondly, most boat builders use credit to build boats, pulling used boats back into inventory ties up massive amounts of credit, not to mention they would be paying interest on every boat until it sold meaning they would have to up the cost of all other boats built to offset the cost of the buyback program.Sold my boat to buy a house, the house is much less fun.

Promo team members stick them on the internet at blow out prices and with them buying the boats at dealer net or below why would a retail customer pay a dealer 20-25% more to buy a new one? Lots of information on the net or just call a promo owner and they will tell you.
Most dealers do not like the promo boats for just this reason as it greatly hampers their ability to make a profit.

We will see. I have heard the idea of Correct Craft having a list of the promo boats to sell off of. So the dealer can sell the boat. If damage is done to the boat it will be Mr Promo guys responsiblility to fix the issues before the boat is sold. Oh by the way look at the name of this thread 200 BOOKED THRU DECEMBER. I know of a guy that just ordered one and he will not see it until April.
