Vacation in Chapel Hill area

My family will be in the Chapel Hill area next June for a wedding. We are thinking of making a vacation out of it. Does anyone have any ideas on good lakeside cabins/cottages to vacation. (Dragging my boat from Denver is not my idea of fun, but I doubt I can rent a Nautique for a week or ten days.) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

There are several good lakes close to Chapel Hill. My personal preference in that area is Kerr Lake (A.K.A. Buggs Island Lake). Kerr is a good-size lake, and never gets too busy, even on the weekends. It is about an hour or so north of Chapel Hill, but would be worth the drive. There are a few rentals available on the lake, but most of the shoreline is undeveloped because it is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers. We head down to Kerr several times a year, and it is always nice to be on a lake of that size and not have to deal with too many other boaters.

If you're not interested in driving an hour from Chapel Hill, you might look at Falls Lake. I haven't been there, but I have heard good things about the lake. I am not sure if they have rentals available or not.
