Replacing your bow stop with an 8000 lb. winch!!

I posted this over at WakeWorld but figured some you here would find this very interesting.

Basically just took out his regular bowstop/winch on his Ram-Lin trailer and used a regular multi-mount Ramsey winch in place of it.

Just out of curiousity, why did you replace the standard winch? Also, how do you stop the boat from sliding forward on a hard stop?

if you look the battery box is pushed in around the bow are where its either hit or been cinched down

I forgot to mention this is one of our customers boats that came in for winterization and had this setup on the front. I also thought the lack of bow stop was a safety issue for stopping purposes.

And yes it definitely looks like the battery box got crushed a few times which makes sense since the bow is usually low when launching/retreiving depending on the launch. But hey, it works and is definitely something I've never seen before.

Pointless! Might come in handy though if you just cleaned the traileer and didn't want to get it wet. You could just back it up close to the water and winch it on from there. HaHa

why would you need so much winch power? Looks like someone has too much time and energy on their hands. It is iteresting that the first picture you can see a bow stop so to speak and the other photos you can not see the bow stop. Could you leave the trailer parked in the parking spot and just winch the boat up to it with this much power?

And that battery is way too close to water for me. Dragging the boat dry isn't good for the boat or trailer, no matter how much power you have.

Does he not realize that he can just push the boat on the trailer with the prop like the trailer is designed to do??? Only think I would use that for is winching the trailer up into the garage tongue first.

If he mounted the battery sideways he might not be crash into it, interesting idea though.

We have to be missing a lot of the story - why would someone "replace" the stop but leave the turnbuckle on the trailer? (last pic - ty-rapped to battery strap)

I would be thinking it may be an issue with a somewhat steep ramp and not power loading (where I launch - if you power load you will no longer be a member!)

Then the stop goes back in place (but that leaves the question of the battery??) Why not wire the vehicle with a plug? Lots of questions/speculation

I think turnbuckle was left on there because it's fine and doesn't get in the way. Battery was mounted on the trailer because then you can use the winch with a different vehicle. Get's expensive runnin 0/1 gauge to the back of the truck if you have more than one tow vehicle. And yes, power loading is the main reason for the winch.
